Gauge the value of education by its power to transform your coaching and catalyze innovation. That’s the real return on investment. Measure the intangibles—confidence, skills, network expansion and client growth. It’s this calculated understanding that informs strategic investments in your continuous learning. This holistic view reveals true returns on educational investments.

You cannot tell whether your ROI without defining your metrics first. Whether it's financial, emotional or other, choose your metrics and how you will track them.

Here are a few ideas: Pre and post-assessments: Measure participants' knowledge, skills, and confidence before and after the coaching program to gauge the impact of continuing education in business coaching. Feedback surveys: Collect feedback from participants to assess their perceptions of the program's effectiveness, relevance, and overall satisfaction, providing insights into its impact and ROI. Deciding how you will choose to measure the impact determines the progress you make. Qualitative or quantitative data can both be applied. What's important is that it is meaningful and measurable.

With education, oftentimes it can be difficult to measure progress with results coming far into the future rather than immediately. I approach educational development as a long-term investment and whenever investing in myself, the ROI is always personal development on a mental and emotional level at the very least. With each step you take, you are no longer the same person.

It is definitely a complex task to calculate the ROI on continuous education, but what might be easier to calculate is the COI (cost of inaction) of not improving. Education in the end should not be just good-to-have knowledge, it should be an enabler for better results. If you want to increase revenue, take a course on selling for example. Hack: focus on hiring someone who already possesses the knowledge you want and you'll shortcut your time to achieve those results.

I help clients consider opportunity costs before they happen not after. We analyse how our resources are being utilized and where they can be better deployed. I do not (often) encourage clients to look back and analyse the opportunities they missed unless there is a lesson to be learned.

Tracking progress and metrics is ideally performed on a regularly basis. Depending the time-frame and goal, progress should be measured on a monthly or quarterly basis, or whatever serves to keep the client motivated and on-track.
