The first collaboration happens when the founder and the VC go into the due diligence and get to know each other. This start is already very predictive of the future relationship and how much each side wants to collaborate. Founders, as well as VCs, need to screen for compatibility at this stage to allow for a synergetic collaboration in the future.

Collaboration between venture capitalists and entrepreneurs is a powerhouse for successful investments. It's like a team sport where each player brings unique strengths to the game. From my experience, this partnership fosters a deeper understanding of the business, leading to more informed decisions. In my experience the selection of your investor is vital for the future of your startup. Not only regarding how much money they give you but regarding other resources they contribute. Especially network to customers and partners and also expertise in the industry. Also, the investor's mindset is crucial. During Covid I saw many investors being to risk-averse and asking startups to slow down their development activities to be able to get public funding (e.g. Kurzarbeitergeld in Germany). So check that you have the right mindset before accepting an investor!

The best early stage VCs (since that is my space) will have an ecosystem from front to back.
