What are the most common challenges in building a startup team?

It can be tempting to hire and promote too quickly. Many times when this happens, the candidate may not be properly vetted. This type of hiring and promoting can cause more harm than good if the candidate is not the right fit with the right skill set. Best practices: create an org chart for the first 2-3 years. Ensure needed positions, experience level and skills are clear. Try to stay true to your org chart and position needs. Remember, you don’t have to hire someone for the long term. The term startup mindset has become quite prevalent in old economy companies too, a reflection will show that it isn't about just agility and nimbleness,but maybe more notably,the approach to problem solving, the rapid prototyping and fast failure learning ,and the whole iterative way of doing things without waiting for the ideal scenario, well that's the route to take a leaf out.

I recently spoke with a person who expressed major disappointment because there was never a plan for her from the management. The business is going through challenging times, and decisions were made that made her absolutely confused. It was never clear for her what was her purpose in the company and why she spent weeks in training. Every now and the she would be asked to help with a task out of nowhere, with little to no context. It is so sad to see talent go through these situations! and it could be avoided just by having a proper conversation, explaining the panorama and establishing an action plan for the person.

But we must understand that everything revolve around time and in other to achieve success, the must be a common goal which must be achieved. How do we achieve this ? Through unity and accountability. If a start up company doesn't have this, then such company cannot stand the test of time .

In addition, it would be very helpful to always get someone who has been trained and works closely with management, in charge of the new location. This will ensure that the company's policies and culture will be correctly implemented in that location. It isn't enough to just train and onboard. Someone or people who have the culture as a way of life need to be ever-present to guide and instil it in the minds of the workers

It can be such a different job than the specialist role they were hired for that they can be quite incompetent at it! It can quickly derail your scaling up, and good talent is tough to find. So ensure anyone who becomes a team leader in any way is really on board with what that entails.

Startups are about sharing a vision more than building a new thing. If you're bringing a team together who don't share your vision of what the future could be, you're already limiting your chance of success. The best companies are able to inspire their audience to want to be a part of the journey. Having people who can spread that feeling will go so much farther than having the latest features or newest trends.

When you work in a small team, you tend to get close to each other. You may also hire your friends because they have the necessary qualifications and do their jobs well. However, when doing business, professionalism goes before personal preferences. Here are the tips that I use: 1. Set the ground rules. If you plan to hire a friend, discuss your collaboration beforehand. Be sure to discuss your expectations openly and agree to immediately inform each other if things get uncomfortable. 2. The issue of Lying in a resume isn't proper. As an expert, have seen client who come to me to request for a resume that is above their standard. Each time I encourage them to be honest in their resume, I keep hearing the same outcome which is "That's what recuriters want" . I know recuriters want to employ the best, but getting the best isn't 100% from a CV , but the right attitude. What am I saying? Have known people with big names on CV but have no outcome or output. I would charge recuriters to employ people with the needed skills but with the right attitude. During the interview, after conducting series of questions, you will know the right person fit for the job. Employ the right attitude and not big names.
