How do you maintain balance across your varied writing endeavors?

Change your environment. I discovered if I go for a walk, clear my mind, and then come back to a selected project it’s easier to shift focus. It helps if you have already completed some of the writing, then the tone is already been established. When a new writing project comes before me, I will make a bunch of notes, carefully taking into consideration, who will be reading the work. If you know who the intended copy is for, then you can pretty much figure out how to establish an effective readable tone.

This can be fun, I keep a selection of avatars on my desk, a teddy bear, an elephant and a Holy Hobbie doll, when I need a different voice I speak to a different doll, it plays to my childhood and it works.

Break Tasks Down: Divide larger projects into smaller, manageable tasks. This makes it easier to make progress & reduces overwhelm.

My work typically ranges from pharmacogenomics articles, research articles/proposals to light mood health and medical blogs. While working simultaneously on these on some days I take small breaks to reset my mind and focus on a completely diverse subject. During such breaks I typically do the following: Cook in my kitchen, Go for a small walk, Listen to few songs, Or Watch a comedy clip. Such brief breaks help me with the clarity of mind and the zeal as I switch from one subject to other.

To effectively manage your time constraints, you need to first set a schedule for yourself once you've received a project. This is so that you would know how much time you can allocate for each project. You need to then make sure that you're clear about the tones used for each of the projects. This is to avoid you from using the wrong one. You need to also make sure that your workpspace is free from distractions. This is so that you wouldn't be confused with the various tones for each of the projects.
