Here's how you can land the perfect internship: strategies for finding and securing.

One of the best decisions I made in college was to be proactive, take initiative and get involved. My college had a career & placement department that helped students with career development. At the time, they were just starting to plan a career fair. Seeing an opportunity to gain experience, I volunteered to join the planning committee. This gave me valuable insights into career fairs & allowed me to refine my CV & pitch. On the day of the fair, I had three successful on-the-spot interviews. Whether it's joining a club, or a department, actively participating in activities that align with your objectives can provide practical skills, insights & connections. It not only prepares you for opportunities but often leads to them directly.

In preparation for commencing the process of seeking an internship, it is imperative to devote meticulous attention to delineating individual learning objectives, career aspirations, and the reciprocal advantages sought. Once a clear delineation of these objectives is achieved, focus can be directed towards pinpointing suitable industries, assessing organizational culture, considering geographical preferences, delineating the internship application process, and judiciously evaluating internship offers before rendering a decision on acceptance.

Start with Self-Assessment and Goal Setting Before starting your internship search, assess your skills, interests, and career goals. Understanding what you want to achieve from an internship will help you target the right opportunities. Identify Interests: Determine which industries and roles align with your passions and long-term career objectives. Set Goals: Outline what you hope to gain from the internship, such as specific skills, industry knowledge, or professional connections.

To land an Internship, first optimize your LinkedIn Profile & your resume. Another way to get an Internship: Start sending 5 Connection Request with startup founders in LinkedIn every week. Before building conversation, focus on 'What value you can bring on the table' & there you differentiate from others. First step is to START. Even its unpaid or paid, that's okay. To make yourself ready for corporate world, your focus is to learn & think of it 'As it's your own startup'. Share ideas from Day 1. Believe me, your experience will be outstanding.

When applicable, create a portfolio showcasing your work and projects relevant to the internship. Leverage university resources, utilize online platforms, network effectively, tailor application materials, and prepare thoroughly for interviews, all can significantly increase a chance of finding and securing the perfect internship. Connect with alumni from the university who are working in industries of interest. Attend industry conferences, seminars, and meetups to expand a professional network. Research and apply on websites like Indeed, Glassdoor, and Internships.com list numerous internship opportunities.

After successfully achieving internship goals and setting clear learning objectives, it is crucial to actively search and thoroughly research for the ideal fit. Through my initial internship search experience, I came to understand that an internship is more than just fulfilling academic requirements; it can serve as the launchpad for a promising career. Consequently, it is vital to conduct comprehensive research on industries, companies, opportunities in your area of interest, cultural alignment, and the application and selection processes.

Quel est votre objectif ? une formation, un poste, une qualité de vie...Comment l'atteindre ? Décortiquer vos idées, vos perspectives...se rendre compte de ce qui est irréaliste à l'instant T et pour quelle(s) raison(s) ? Serait-il possible de le rendre réaliste ? par quel(s) moyen(s) ? Une réorientation, une reconversion professionnelle demande du temps, de la réflexion, une maturité de votre projet...quelquefois de grands pas, et d'autres fois un pas de fourmi !

Most candidate fail to research about company thoroughly. Make a note of it - Start with SWOT Analysis, Competitor's Analysis, what problem they're solving in the market, how you'll add value to their vision & mission. Express your commitment towards work - 'How'. Understand & find out their current problem they're facing. How you'll change as part of an organization. When you do deep research, it showcase during an Interview with Recruiter. Because somewhere you already knew 'why you do, what you do'.

Always remember that your Resume is a reflection of yourself to potential employers and holds immense significance. It must be crafted meticulously, making a strong and professional impact while meeting the specific needs of the organization. Each organization and internship opportunity will require a unique set of Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and other characteristics (KASOCs). Therefore, it is vital to ensure that your resume includes the right keywords, uses action verbs to effectively showcase your achievements, is professionally formatted, and is thoroughly proofread to authentically represent your professional identity.

Se faire confiance et croire en soi !! Ne pas se laisser happer par ses peurs et surtout les peurs des autres...Quelquefois, il peut être opportun de garder son projet enfoui...le temps de la réflexion et de sa maturation ! Toutes vos expériences sont des richesses, tant via des activités professionnelles que via des activités ludiques (associations, loisirs...). Mettre en avant vos savoir-être, ce qui va matcher avec le poste visé et donner envie au recruteur de lire plus en détails votre CV !

La priorité est déjà de vous connaître et d'identifier qui vous êtes : ce que vous voulez, ce que vous ne voulez pas ou plus... Vous faire confiance, et prendre conscience de vos potentiels (ils sont très souvent énormes !! et nous avons tendance à les minimiser et à nous dévaloriser pour maintes raisons et notamment via nos croyances limitantes !), et ensuite un long chemin va débuter....Mettre en lumière vos points forts, et identifier vos points de vigilance (besoins en formation, ou gagner de la confiance en soi...). Très souvent, une aide extérieure aura son importance pour vous donner l'opportunité de prendre suffisamment de recul...et d'atteindre cet objectif : croire en vous, en vos rêves et vous donner les moyens Bonne route ;-)

Avoir bien préparer cet échange, cette rencontre...connaître vos forces et vos points de vigilance. Quelle serait la plus-value que vous apporteriez à cette structure si vous étiez leur candidat ? Restez spontané, mais démontrez que vous vous êtes renseigné sur le poste, sur la structure...et que vous souhaitez rentrer dans l'aventure !!

Un débrief donne l'opportunité de prendre conscience - en toute bienveillance, de comment s'est déroulé cet entretien ? Me suis senti(e) en situation inconfortable ? si oui, à quel moment ? pour quelle(s) raison(s) ? Un regard extérieur peut être intéressant (pour éviter de s'auto-flageller...l'objectif n'est pas là !)

Es importante que tengas claro para que quieres tu internship, qué quieres aprender? es para un cambio de carrera o para conocer más de algo? Cuando empecé a trabajar mientras estudiaba lo que buscaba era aprender, pero cuando tuve que buscar un internship para mi maestría, quería conocer algo diferente. Intenté buscarlo como tradicionalmente se busca un puesto, pero mi gran guía @Carol R. Anderson, me enseñó a buscar fuera de lo tradicional, haciendo networking, en el autobús, en ferias de empleo, y presentando mi valor. Tuve algunas oportunidades en lugares que eran parecidos a mi experiencia, pero encontré el internship ideal a través de pedir la oportunidad en una feria para diseño (soy de RH)
