“To improve the quality of life in Omaha by helping our youth to be Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Lead"

About us

The mission of the 100 Black Men of Omaha (100) is “To improve the quality of life in Omaha by helping our youth to be Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Lead.” We seek to achieve our mission through mentoring and education programs. The 100 is committed to the intellectual development of our youth and the empowerment of the African-American community based on the following precepts: respect for family, spirituality, justice and integrity. Mentors, volunteers and staff have leveraged resources to develop a system based on Mentoring through Education, Health & Wellness, and Economic Empowerment programs. We believe that if we focus our efforts on these core areas, we ultimately will create a foundation of success for our youth and community. The 100 was established in 1995 when a group of concerned men realized that the survival of the Omaha community rested on their willingness to join together and be a vehicle for positive change. Today the 100 is one of over 100 chapters internationally that make up the 100 Black Men of America, an alliance of African-American men from a myriad of professions including community leaders, business executives, entrepreneurs, elected officials and educators.

  • We were honored to have our Executive Director, Chris McCroy, visit the Fairfax Neighborhood Association to share his inspiring journey and the impactful mission of 100 Black Men. This visit was especially meaningful as Chris's father once served as the association's president, laying the foundation for community leadership that continues today. With Teddy Young, the current president of the Fairfax Neighborhood Association and a proud member of the 100, we're dedicated to creating opportunities for our youth and shaping a brighter future. #CommunityLeadership #100BlackMen #FairfaxStrong

A: 2 years ago, 2022. Q: What inspired you to join the organization of the 100 Black Men of Omaha and what impact have you witnessed it making in the community? A: I was inspired to join the 100 Black Men of Omaha because I deeply understand the importance of community support, having experienced the benefits firsthand. I had a mentor throughout high school who made a significant impact on my life, and I recognize that it truly takes a village to nurture and uplift individuals. As a mental health therapist, I'm also aware that behavior is often learned through modeling, so being part of this organization allows me to give back and help shape the next generation. Q: How long have you been a mentor and why are you passionate about mentorship? A: 2 years-I'm passionate about mentorship because I've personally seen the profound difference it can make. I know personally the lasting impact that mentorship can have on personal growth and success. Mentorship is a powerful tool for fostering positive behavior and development, something I emphasize in my work as a mental health therapist.
