Developing an adaptable communication style isn't just about linguistic flexibility; it's also about cultivating an environment where vulnerability is met with empathy rather than judgment. Dr. Brené Brown's research on shame resilience underscores the importance of empathy in creating spaces where individuals can share their experiences without fear of ridicule or dismissal. By actively practising empathy and adapting our communication to be more “trauma-informed”, we not only validate the experiences of racialised individuals but also empower them to engage openly and authentically. #HealthyConversations,#EmpathyInAction,#MentalHealthAwareness, #YoungMinds

How often do you reflect on what's important to you? Today I start mentoring a new cohort of students at Ely College, facilitated by Form the Future CIC. The first session is about values so I thought I'd better think about my own. Someone once gave me a great tip on this - list out the people you admire and why you admire them. The things you admire are likely to be the things you value. The next step is to think about whether the things you do each day are aligned with those values. Doing this exercise again, I saw that top of my list is 'does hard things and learns from them' and 'passionate about developing and supporting other people'. Am I doing things in my life that align with these values? I think I am - I would much rather be doing scary things on a regular basis than opting for an easy life (I joked with a colleague the other day that public speaking is my extreme sport!); and I invest time in developing my team and others at work, bringing people together to support each other, and volunteering for great initiatives such as this mentoring scheme. I notice these are also the things that energise me and that I really look forward to (sometimes with a buzz of adrenaline ...). On a side note, I gave the session a test run with my 13 year old. When I asked him whether he knew what a mentor was, he said 'Not really. It makes me think of the Hunger Games.' So that will be something to clarify in session 1 ...!

Mentoring is a gift that keeps on giving. At the Mintridge Foundation, we foster meaningful connections between mentors and young individuals, helping them navigate challenges, set goals, and reach their full potential. "CONTROL THE CONTROLLABLES & HABIT FORMING" were two key topics this week for Ben G. and his two mentees as part of their six month programme at Cranford Primary School in Northamptonshire. #MintridgeMentoring #MentorshipMatters #SportsMentors #MentoringJourney #InspiringMentors #MentorshipPrograms #MentoringRelationships #MentorshipMomentum #MentoringExcellence #MentorshipMilestones

Who are the mentors that changed your life? I attribute the largest leaps in my professional growth to the mentors who took a shot on me, and gave me the room to "fail forward". Eric L. was one of the first to give me a shot in sales, and the first presentation I ran was a total train wreck. I completely panicked and lost my train of thought - deer in the headlights. Eric laughed, jumped in, and effortlessly saved the pitch. We laughed after the fact, and his allowing me to "fail forward" and learn from that experience was foundational for me. Darin Medeiros and Chase Adams taught me how to fine tune the sales process from scratch at a Series B eLearning company with zero footprint in the states. Fail fast!" was the motto, and their team culture championed testing, learning, and celebrating wins small and large. Being a contributor to the enormous revenue growth their team generated was one of the most satisfying accomplishments of my career. I eventually made the not-too-common pivot to Software Engineering, where I could not only sell products that solve customer pain points - I could build them. After some self-study, I was lucky enough to be given yet another shot by Lukas Andersen and a handful of other very skilled software engineers. Again, I found myself in an environment that provided me the headspace to learn, fail, and grow. To those who mentor, thank you. Your mentees love you for it. And to Curious Cardinals, cheers to your mission of connecting every child with a mentor. Those lucky enough to find their mentors early in life will be better off for it! #mentorsmatter #CuriousCardinals
"Who's the mentor who changed your life?" Curious Cardinals celebrates life-changing mentors this back-to-school season. Our campaign was inspired by a conversation with my 90-year-old grandfather. In 1945, his 5th-grade teacher, Mrs. Ruth Goldblatt, saw potential in a struggling student, forever altering his path. Her influence echoes through his 57-year career as a doctor, touching thousands of lives. This story sparked our curiosity: How many others have been transformed by a single mentor? The overwhelming responses we've received validate our Curious Cardinals mission like never before. In the coming weeks, we'll share these inspiring stories, reinforcing our commitment to connect the next generation with transformative mentors. This back-to-school season, we're dedicated to ensuring every child finds their Mrs. Goldblatt. So, who is the mentor who changed your life? Tag them and share your gratitude in the comments below!💛 #MentorsMatter #CuriousCardinals

When you go out on a limb, don't think of the branch breaking, instead climb to a higher branch. I can help you climb.
When setting goals for your teen, focus them on not just the final "milestone," but measuring points along the way AND any resources they need. This way, reaching/achieving the goals becomes more clearly laid out. Sometimes, teens need more support recognizing the resources...and then utilizing them vs mapping out steps. This is their way of asserting that independence. If your male teen needs help setting goals heading into the final half of this school year, click the link and learn more about ImPACTful Mentoring's mentoring program for teen boys. https://lnkd.in/eqncfVPp
