Compliance Today recently published an article entitled “Using the CMS APIs to revolutionize data-sharing strategies” written by 1upHealth General Counsel Eden Avraham-Katz. Topics covered include how HIPAA and CMS regulations intersect and how a payer (specifically, their compliance teams) should use this information to support the use of these CMS APIs for compliance and beyond. Eden explains, “The biggest question to address when sharing data via the CMS APIs for purposes outside of provider access and payer-to-payer is understanding what constitutes the minimum necessary amount of PHI to be shared for such disclosures. While there is some regulatory guidance, the minimum necessary standard is inherently subjective and is heavily determined by the policies and procedures of the covered entity.” 📖 Read the article for more information, including the 3 actions you can take in preparation: https://lnkd.in/eCHU4-gq #hipaa #cms #compliance #dataexchange

In our latest blog, 1upHealth’s Director of Customer Success Annie Kroes shares why 1upHealth takes a “dirty-glove” approach to customer success. Annie explains, “At this early stage of healthcare interoperability maturation, there are a number of issues that can arise during the data cycle, from initial file formatting to data pipeline monitoring to reporting and insights generation. This is not always clean and easy and often requires our Customer Success team members to get their hands – or in this case gloves – a bit dirty.” To learn more about 1upHealth’s “dirty-glove” approach, check out the full blog: https://bit.ly/3zveOBH #customersuccess #dirtyglove #interoperability

In a recent article on Digital Health Insights, author Jennifer Bresnick discusses how CMS is lighting a fire under payers to compete on value with 1upHealth's CSO Donald Rucker. Topics include the power of modern data standards (i.e., FHIR) and CMS-mandated APIs to provide transparency around outcomes and cost (i.e., value). 🔥 Don says in part, “FHIR creates the ability to bring financial and clinical data together in a meaningful way so that we can finally draw back the veil on why we spend the most but have some of the worst outcomes in the world. We can begin to codify and compute our definitions of value – and start to compete on that value. You can choose to be threatened by that, or you can choose to make it work for you. The organizations that are going to survive are the ones that pick the latter.” 📰 Read the full article to learn more. https://lnkd.in/eaYdEqBr #fhir #cmsapis #value
