"The rain is just coming in heavier busts the last couple winters. We are experiencing local flooding in places that we have not in the past" a quote I have heard from several city maintenance staff recently. Data is helping them document the issues, prepare for the next storm and work toward lasting solutions.

Have you seen the recent news headlines about the Pacific Institute's new national assessment on stormwater across US urban areas? In the words of the report’s lead author, “The numbers are clear. It’s time to elevate the role of stormwater capture in the national water conversation.” Learn what this new data means for your work and get your questions answered directly by the experts. A new article by Rebekah Ward for the Houston Chronicle highlights the Pacific Institute's recently launched national assessment findings on urban stormwater runoff. The article spotlights one of the report’s key findings, highlighting how Texas shoulders the most urban stormwater runoff of any state in the United States, while Houston is its most runoff-prone city. Pacific Institute Senior Researcher Bruk Berhanu, Ph.D., P.E. emphasizes, “We don't want to imply that it's feasible, or legal, or even desirable to capture 100% of the stormwater. But really this finding shows that there is still a huge potential. The current extent of stormwater capture is really limited, only done in a few places.” The report's findings underscore the importance of reconsidering stormwater not as a nuisance but as a valuable resource. Don’t miss the opportunity to dive deeper into these groundbreaking findings - register for the webinar today ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gf36YpAJ Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/gFdy-z82 Download the full report: https://lnkd.in/gtaeAarw #RethinkRunoff #StormwaterCapture #PacificInstitute #WaterResilience
Texas has the most urban runoff of any state. Could that solve looming water woes?

Proud to partner with the @Pacific Institute to launch a new national assessment ‘Untapped Potential: An Assessment of Urban Stormwater Runoff Potential in the United States’ today. This assessment finds substantial opportunities for expanded stormwater capture and use approaches to improve water resilience in urban areas across the United States. This study estimates that U.S. Urban Areas have the potential to generate 59.5 million acre-feet of stormwater annually on average, equivalent to 93% of total municipal and industrial water withdrawals in 2015. This is equivalent to an annual average of more than 53 billion gallons per day. There is an outsized opportunity in coastal areas, which represent just 12% of urban land area and 37% of the national runoff generated, and stormwater capture in areas is less likely to have adverse impacts on downstream users. Read the press release: https://lnkd.in/gDfVRXwe Download the report: https://lnkd.in/gGquDe6K Register for the webinar to learn more about the report’s findings here: https://lnkd.in/gf36YpAJ The report concludes that urban stormwater capture is currently underutilized, and that greater uptake of this strategy could improve water resilience. While the findings are specific to the United States, insights from the assessment can inform water resilience strategies globally. The Pacific Institute will release additional national assessments quantifying the potential for water efficiency and wastewater reuse across the United States later in 2024. #RethinkRunoff #StormwaterCapture #StormwaterAssessment #WaterResilience #PacificInstitute #UrbanStormwater
