As leaders in the construction industry, we have a responsibility not only to grow our companies, but to help the individuals who work on the job sites. It's time to address a critical issue that often goes unnoticed within our industry: mental health. Did you know that construction workers are disproportionately affected by mental health challenges, including high rates of suicide and substance abuse? This is a crisis that demands our attention and action. That's why I'm reaching out to all construction leaders to sponsor Clash of the Contractors, an event aimed at raising awareness of these issues within our workforce. By sponsoring this event, you can help create a safe space for open dialogue, provide resources, and break down the stigma surrounding mental health. Investing in the well-being of our employees isn't just the right thing to do – it's also good for business. Studies have shown that addressing mental health concerns in the workplace leads to increased productivity, reduced absenteeism, and higher employee satisfaction. Together, let's make a difference in the lives of our workers. Let's show them that their mental health matters and that they are not alone. Join me in sponsoring Clash of the Contractors and let's build a healthier, happier construction industry from the ground up. #Construction #MentalHealthMatters #SponsorshipOpportunity #BreakTheStigma #BuildingStrongerCommunities #2Tuff2Talk

Dear leaders in the construction industry, It's time to address a critical issue: mental health in our industry. While we have always prioritized safety and physical well-being on our construction sites, it's essential to focus on the mental well-being of our workforce as well. Construction work is physically and mentally demanding. The stress of meeting deadlines, managing projects, and ensuring safety standards can impact our workers. The transient nature of construction work, with long hours and frequent job changes, can lead to increased stress, anxiety, and even depression among our workforce. Neglecting mental health concerns doesn't just affect individual workers – it impacts our entire team and the success of our projects. Poor mental health can result in decreased productivity, higher turnover rates, increased absenteeism, and compromised safety on the job site. By prioritizing mental health in the construction industry, we're not just supporting the well-being of our workforce – we're enhancing productivity, safety, and overall project success. Let's come together as leaders to create a healthier and more supportive work environment for all. #MentalHealthMatters #ConstructionIndustry #Leadership #WorkplaceWellness #UnionConstruction

According to the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention ~ recent data indicates around 80 percent of suicides in the United States are completed by men, and men between the ages of 50-59 have had a near 50 percent increase in suicides in recent years. Unemployment, relationship difficulties, social isolation, loss of a loved one and other life transitions are just a few of the factors that increase suicide risk among middle-aged men. Compounding the risk is the fact that this population has historically been reluctant to seek help. You Are NOT Alone!! You Are NOT 2 Tuff 2 Talk!! Consider the CDC’s national comprehensive approach to prevent suicide, which is built around several strategies: strengthening economic supports, improving access and delivery of suicide care, creating protective environments, promoting connectedness, teaching coping and problem-solving skills, identifying and supporting people at risk, and lessening harms and preventing future risk. For the construction industry, this could include having open, frank conversations, which can destigmatize mental health conditions and create a supportive environment in which workers feel free to seek and give help. Training supervisors and other workers on the subject and how to recognize the risk factors can help create a supportive environment and make it more likely that an individual can get the help they need. A simple “Are you okay?” may open the door to better communication. And having appropriate resources available as part of the path to better mental health and the prevention of suicide is paramount. The Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention (CIASP) provides useful resources for companies to help evaluate their mental health and suicide prevention preparedness. You Are NOT Alone!! Ninety percent of the U.S. construction workforce are male and 38% are between the ages of 35 and 64, a demographic with a high risk of suicide in the general population.16 Additionally, over 15 percent of veterans—who have a 50% higher rate of suicide—enter the construction industry and make up a large percentage of that workforce.
