Honoring Women Engineers Who Inspire . . . Just about 51 years back (1973), I graduated from L D College of Engineering (LDCE), Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India, with a bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering. Graduating alongside me was Nayna Mahorowala – one of just about 11 girls amongst almost 1,500 boys in our engineering college (~ 1% of total student population). Just imagine what it is like being in her position – I could not imagine and most of us, the males, probably won’t understand. A true trailblazer swimming against the currents of the then-traditional society where engineering was not a place to be for women. She finished in the Top 3 of the graduating class. I was lucky enough to win the Golden Heart of this brilliant classmate. While I pursued MS in Structural Engineering at Stanford, she patiently waited for me in India. In 1977, I went back, married her – again, here, the society frowned on inter-caste marriages in those days but she stayed firm.  Not only did she work in nuclear engineering projects for over a decade after coming to the US, when time came, she decided to go back to school at the age of 42 to pursue MS in Computer Science and after graduating in 1996 (many of her classmates had mothers of her age!), she pursued a new career in new industry (the tech industry) for another decade. Retired two days before our first grandchild was  born in 2013, she has taken up painting and singing. She continues to amaze our family and our extended US families with her wit and simple yet pragmatic solutions to any problems. Interestingly, a great chef with Indian and international cuisines, she cooks with engineering precision and has a reason for doing things in particular way in the kitchen. Yesterday (June 22, 2024), we had an opportunity to attend LDCE Alumni Meet in Silicon Valley where there was delegation from LDCE that included former and current principals. In a small group of about 100, there were more female engineers than I ever saw in our college when we were studying. A few of these female engineers talked to her and were in awe to listen to her stories. Hats off to her for being a trailblazer and those who followed and continue to follow . . . 

I am thrilled to announce that VitusCare has successfully closed its Series A fund-raise! Together with Tomorrow Capital, 1Crowd and 3i Partners (Impact India Investment Partners) a US-based impact fund, and our new incoming angels, we are excited to further our mission of delivering quality dialysis to underserved geographies. I would like to extend sincere thanks to all who participated in the round. This greatly validates our work and mission. None of this would have been possible without the tireless efforts of our phenomenal partners, including Sagus Legal – our law firm, and Santosh Patra – our transaction advisor on the deal. You all have been instrumental in making this journey a success. Last but not least, I want to express my gratitude to the entire team at #VitusCare. Their tireless efforts and hard work have been instrumental in making this fund-raise possible. The funds will be used to increase the reach of our centers, allowing us to be closer to the patients and their kin, helping them save time, effort, and money. We are selective with our partnerships, and I am proud and blessed to have all the above as our investors.
