As part of a #turnkey project, 3P Services successfully completed an inline inspection project of a field pipeline that runs from an operating site to a #cavern at a #GasStorage facility in northern Germany. After the pipeline had been taken out of service, 3P Services and its contractor took over the pipeline. Temporary traps were installed, the pipe was filled with water and the pipeline was cleaned with several cleaning tools until it was ready for the final intelligent ILI tool run. Due to the #HeavyWallThickness of the pipe, #ultrasonic wall measurement (UT-WT) was identified as the most beneficial inspection technology for this pipeline. The high-resolution, stand-alone #UT #inspection tool identified the current metal loss status of the line, which incidentally was a baseline inspection since the line had never been inspected before. The on-board XYZ unit (IMU) recorded the movements of the tool in the x-y-z direction and enabled the geographic coordination of each weld and metal loss. After the successful ILI run, the pipeline was drained and dried and handed back to operator for recommissioning.
