Food Rescue Hero and 412 Food Rescue CEO Alyssa Cholodofsky invited our Network Partners' CEOs and Executive Directors for a special dinner last week at the Food Rescue Conference. The dinner included lots of shared learning and round table discussion about food rescue in everyone's respective cities and collaboration for national policy change. The conference has provided so many opportunities like this for our Network to share knowledge and brainstorm solutions based on others' experiences in the food recovery space, and we're excited to bring some of these ideas to Pittsburgh! About us
The 412 Food Rescue app makes it easy to volunteer and transport surplus retail food directly to non-profit partners who serve anyone facing food insecurity. 412 Food Rescue was founded as a direct response to the disconnect between food waste, hunger and environmental sustainability.

This Halloween season, we want to shed light on the serious issue of food waste rather than ghost stories. Wasted food leads to resource depletion, environmental harm, and ongoing hunger in our community. Shockingly, nearly one-third of the world's food production is wasted. In the Pittsburgh area, a significant amount of good food ends up in landfills. Around 35% of wasted food comes from supermarkets, shops, and households, much of which is still edible! https://lnkd.in/gfv-PK4U

We’re thrilled to have partnered with Giant Eagle, Inc. for the second year in a row through their Loyalty Card Discount Program, one of the Pittsburgh Pirates' popular fan value ticket offers. This season, a portion of each ticket sold helped support our mission to prevent surplus food waste and direct that food to our neighbors in need. This season, the program raised an impressive total of $16,026! To celebrate the donation, volunteers from Giant Eagle and the Pirates Front Office along with Pirates Alum, Neil Walker, and the Pirate Parrot participated in 412 Food Rescue's grocery bagging program!

This week, 412 Food Rescue and Whole Foods Market came together once again for the third annual “Stuff the Van” event! Whole Foods, as part of their Nourishing Our Neighbors program, loaded up our refrigerated van–donated by Whole Foods in 2021–with an incredible 1,102 pounds of groceries at their East Liberty location. A huge thank you to Whole Foods for their ongoing partnership and generosity, and to everyone involved in making this year’s “Stuff the Van” event a big success! Together, we’re continuing to nourish our neighbors and fight food insecurity in the region. 💚

Volunteering at 412 Food Rescue's Good Food Project is all treats and no tricks 🎃 We want to help ensure that all of our neighbors across Pittsburgh have something good to eat as autumn makes its entrance and temperatures begin to drop. And you can be a part of that! 💚 Opportunities include: Grocery Bagging 🛍️, the repackaging of bulk foods into individual servings. Over 500 grocery bags are packed and loaded onto our truck each week to be distributed over various HACP locations. Kitchen Prep 🍱, transforming surplus food into healthy, frozen meals. Each meal is housed in compostable packing and comprises recovered, good food that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill. To sign up for a volunteer shift at the Good Food Project, check out our opportunities here: https://lnkd.in/dwHSFWAS

412 Food Rescue and Whole Foods Market came together again for the third annual “Stuff the Van” event! Whole Foods, as part of their Nourishing Our Neighbors program, loaded up our refrigerated Dodge ProMaster van–donated by Whole Foods in 2021–with an incredible 1,102 pounds of groceries at their East Liberty location. This year’s donation included a variety of essential items: shelf-stable foods like oats, rice, and canned goods, alongside fresh produce such as fruits and vegetables. These will directly benefit the Good Food Project, where the food will be split between 412 Food Rescue’s zero-waste kitchen and grocery bagging program. These meals and grocery bags are set to be distributed to multiple Pittsburgh Housing Authority sites, providing critical support to families who rely on our services. A huge thank you to Whole Foods for their ongoing partnership and generosity, and to everyone involved in making this year’s “Stuff the Van” event a big success! Together, we continue nourishing our neighbors and fighting food insecurity in the region. 💚
