About us
4Kids4Families will work with DFPS to transition the Texas child welfare system from a statewide, “one size fits all” approach to a community-based model designed to meet the individual and unique needs of children, youth, and families at the local level.

Congratulations to East Texas Open Door for being our January Network Provider of the month! East Texas Open Door, often called simply Open Door, is a non-profit in Marshall Texas that has been serving the community for over 30 years! They were originally established in 1987 as an emergency shelter and evolved into a residential group home around 2009. Open Door applied for a contract with 4Kids4Families in October of 2023 and signed their contract two months later making them one of our oldest in-network contracts! Open Door can serve female populations ranging from ages five to 17. Since our partnership began, Open Door has hosted 12 Region 4 children and at present, they currently have five children from Region 4 in their care. Many of the children placed at this facility are higher acuity children with emotional disorders.

This Black History Month, we honor Carrie Steele Logan. Known as The Mother of Orphans, she was a trailblazer in child welfare whose compassion and determination transformed countless lives. Born into slavery and later orphaned, she refused to turn a blind eye to the abandoned children around her. Using her own earnings, she provided shelter and care for homeless children. When her home became too small, she founded the Carrie Steele Orphans’ Home in 1888—the first Black-run orphanage in the nation, which continues to serve children today. Her legacy of love, resilience, and advocacy continues more than a century later. 💜 #BlackHistoryMonth
