  • ShOC-N Capstone, tech experimentations to shorten the kill chain The United States Department of Defense's CJADC2 concept's aim is to improve coalition interoperability, by making information accessible anywhere, anytime for quick decision-making on the battlefield. For this reason, the Department of the Air Force focused its efforts in the Combined Federated Battle Laboratories Network experiment toward enhancing and refining the data-centric information exchange across U.S. and coalition partners' different command and control systems. UK-distributed participants connected to the CFBLNet could see the same information as U.S. participants during the same scenario. “I think what doesn’t jump out is that the UK is using their own software,” said Lt. Col. Shawn Finney, 805th CTS commander. “We are sending the data to the UK; they didn’t buy our software or kit, which gave them the freedom to use their own software. We sent them the data, and they captured and interpreted it however they needed to -- talk about integrated development and integrated design.” | United States Air Force | Air Combat Command | UK Defence Journal | Royal Air Force (RAF) | Royal Australian Air Force | Ryan Hayde | Robert Smith | Shawn Finney | https://lnkd.in/g2BCEXFf

The exercise conducted live-fly operations in the eastern Pacific and a simultaneous 24-hour live, virtual, and constructive, or LVC, rolling scenario, tackling issues involving distributed command and control, communications degradation, logistics and sustainment challenges, and fighting through the tyranny of distance, last month. #benafb | United States Air Force | United States Department of Defense | Ryan Hayde | Robert Smith | Shawn Finney | Mike Power | Royal Australian Air Force | Royal Air Force (RAF) | UK Defence Journal | https://lnkd.in/g8agqeDM

  • “Bamboo Eagle 24-3 built upon 24-1 in the operational command and control structure that assured the C2FEs [force elements] had the operational echelon above them to provide critical guidance, support, and sustainment as the agile combat employment scheme of maneuver was executed,” said United States Air Force Brig. Gen. Jesse Friedel, U.S. Air Force Warfare Center deputy commander and Bamboo Eagle Commander, Air Force forces and Combined/Joint Forces Air Component Commander, Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. “The large-scale combat-representative exercise was successful at executing the C2 structure for Great Power Competition, focusing on mission command where there was centralized command and key distributed control, along with critical decentralized execution to assure we were synchronizing efforts to improve interoperability with our Nation’s joint force.” “U.K. and Royal Australian Air Force participants benefitted from unprecedented access to U.S. systems. This demonstrated the strength and effectiveness of multinational cooperation in achieving shared military objectives,” said Royal Air Force (RAF) Wing Commander Richard Kinniburgh, U.K. exchange officer to the 505th CCW and Bamboo Eagle U.K. Detachment commander. #benafb | United States Department of Defense | UK Defence Journal | Ryan Hayde | Robert Smith | Shawn Finney | Mike Power | Brad "Ralphie" S. | Jason Gossett | Ben “Dragon” Lee | Air Combat Command | US Navy | United States Marine Corps | https://lnkd.in/gDDvkkHj

  • National Hispanic Heritage Month (NHHM) commemorates the many achievements and cultures of Hispanic Americans. Celebrated from September 15th through October 15th, it is the only Department of Defense special observance to span multiple months, coinciding with Independence Day celebrations for several Latin American countries. During this time of year, the Department of Defense (DoD) honors the Hispanic Americans who have sacrificed for, contributed to, and served our great nation. The 2024 NHHM theme is “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together.” This theme emphasizes the Hispanic Americans who have sacrificed to create a better future for the Nation and all Americans. The future is impacted by leaders of bravery, humanitarianism, and selflessness. One such person was Roberto Clemente. Clemente was a legendary Puerto Rican baseball player who faced adversary, served his country, became a champion, and sacrificed everything to help others. Born in 1934 in Carolina, Puerto Rico, he spent his young life playing track and field sports as well as baseball. At just 17 years old, he began playing for the Santurce Crabbers. By 1954, he was scouted and signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers. The following year, he joined the Pittsburgh Pirates, an organization upon which he would leave an indelible mark. While there, he enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1958, as a Reserve infantryman. For the following 6 years, he spent his off seasons serving his country. With his iconic “21” jersey, Clemente dominated with the Pirates starting in 1960, when they defeated the New York Yankees in the World Series. He is noted as one of the best right fielders in baseball history. When the Pirates won the World Series again in 1971, Clemente won the Most Valuable Player Award. In the early 1970s, he secured sponsorships for baseball clinics in Puerto Rico, coached an amateur baseball team in Nicaragua, and worked on plans to build a sports complex for underprivileged children. In 1972, a devastating earthquake struck Nicaragua. Clemente raised over $150,000 and 26 tons of food, clothing, and medicine to help. On his way to transport supplies to those impacted, his plane crashed, and he tragically died. However, his legacy of humanitarianism lives on. Clemente said, “Any time you have an opportunity to make a difference in this world and you don’t, then you are wasting your time on Earth.” Through selfless service, helping others, and sacrifice, Clemente shaped the future for countless others.
