About us

6 RIFLES is the British Army's Reserve Infantry presence in the South West with locations in Hereford, Gloucester, Bristol, Dorchester, Poole, Plymouth, Truro, Exeter, Paignton and Barnstaple. Being a reservist is about achieving the most you can with your time. Our riflemen balance their civilian jobs with training on Tuesdays (aside Hereford and Barnstaple, who parade on Wednesdays) and a number of weekends throughout the year, as well as a career course or annual training that lasts 2 weeks. Most have, at some point, been on an operational tour. They also have the opportunity to complete arduous 'Adventurous Training', including but not limited to mountaineering, sailing, skiing and diving. Reservists are truly twice the citizen. We are currently mobilised on Op TOSCA 33. 237 riflemen are currently in Cyprus, unarmed as part of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus. Riflemen carry out daily patrols in order to identify changes to the 'status quo', as well as maintaining an open dialogue with the military and civil authorities on both sides. They are gaining important language and communication skills, as well as a breadth of experience in areas such as incident management, first response, and fire and flood management.
