🌊🐋 #MarineMammalMonday 🐋🌊 Today we are showcasing the Guadalupe Fur Seal! 🔍 Scientific Name: Arctocephalus townsendi ⏳ Life Span: 13 to 23 years 📉 Population Status: Threatened Guadalupe Fur Seals are a remarkable species known for their sleek, dark brown fur and long, slender body. These seals primarily inhabit the waters around Guadalupe Island, off the coast of Baja California, Mexico. They are adept divers, reaching depths of up to 400 feet to hunt for squid and fish. Once believed to be extinct due to extensive hunting in the 19th century, Guadalupe Fur Seals have made a slow comeback. However, they still face significant threats from #entanglement in fishing gear, #vesselstrikes, and #climatechange. 📸 Photo Credit: NOAA #OceanLife #MarineLife #GuadalupeFurSeal #AISInc
