One way USDA supports local and regional food system development is through the Farmers Market Promotion Program (FMPP). This grant program has funded projects that provide new market opportunities to farmers, increase access to local foods in underserved areas, support culturally relevant or niche products, and build more equitable markets for small, beginning and socially disadvantaged farmers. These investments not only aid farmers in reaching a broader customer base but also promote economic growth in rural areas.
