For over 60 years AABR has been guided by the dream: “May each life find meaning.” We are proud of our directors, managers and staff for their extraordinary dedication to children and adults with developmental disabilities. They teach daily living skills, inspire self-confidence and empower our consumers to lead productive and rewarding lives. We are equally proud of those we serve. For it is they who take on life’s challenges, learn to grow and acquire new skills. They teach us, as much as we teach them. Experience the freedom of a day habilitation program without walls (WoW) on Long Island with AABR Through our WoW program, participants have access to a variety of community-based activities that promote skill development, socialization, and community integration. This includes volunteering at local organizations, participating in sports and arts programs, visiting museums, galleries, and parks, and exploring vocational training. The journey has only just begun
🌟 Celebrating 46 Years of Service! 🌟 This month marks a monumental milestone in my career—46 years devoted to serving individuals diagnosed with Autism or Developmental Disabilities. In 1979, I walked into the Bernard Fineson Developmental Center, located on the 15th floor of Creedmoor Psychiatric Center, beginning what has turned out to be an enriching journey with NYS OMRDD, now known as OPWDD. From the first day, I knew I had found my calling. Over the past four and a half decades, I have had the privilege and profound pleasure of working alongside the most dedicated, compassionate, and inspiring people. Each person I've met and every experience I've had have contributed to shaping my life in ways I could have never imagined. The field of developmental disabilities requires unwavering commitment, empathy, and continuous learning. It has taught me the true meaning of resilience, the power of advocacy, and the boundless potential within each individual we support. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have played a part in this community and cannot express enough how much it has enriched my life. To my incredible colleagues, past and present, thank you for your partnership, support, and shared vision. Together, we have made and will continue to make a significant difference. Here’s to many more years of service, growth, and learning. Amazing turnout at our kickoff training! Over 70 dedicated AABR, Inc. staff attended the impactful session on "Trauma in the I/DD Population" from the STRYDD Center at Northwell Health. Funded by a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), we were privileged to host this event at our St. Albans site. A huge thank you to Peter D'Amico, George wurzer, and Daniel L. Hoffman, PhD, ABPP for an engaging and extremely informative program. We're excited about our continued partnership and the positive impact we'll make together!
