Engaging with our elected leaders takes practice! That’s why our policy team presented “How to Meet with Electeds” at Netroots Nation in Baltimore, the largest conference for progressives. #nn24 The workshop covered tips on preparing, requesting, and making a strategic ask during a meeting. AAPI Equity will continue to learn and share critical skills to ensure AAPI needs are heard at every level of government!

    • AAPI Equity's Director of External Affairs, Hoang Nguyen, speaking behind a podium with a presentation screen behind him. The presentation reads "Part One: Making The Ask".

We’re halfway through the year, and June brings a culmination of anniversaries: Vincent Chin’s legacy, Juneteenth, Gun Violence Awareness Month, the reversal of Roe v. Wade, and Pride ➡️ This November, there is an opportunity for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) to use our voices to vote for progress. Reflecting on these anniversaries has us fired up from the key moments in history that showcase the power in our communities! There’s a lot at stake in this presidential election, and we urge you to stay informed and join us in our fight for equity. This Pride Month looks different for AAPI Equity Alliance as we learn from our partners – Los Angeles LGBT Center, The LGBTQ Center Long Beach and St. John's Community Health – under the Stop the Hate program, a groundbreaking initiative to end hate in California. To honor and celebrate the legacy of Pride in the fight against hate, we’re sharing stories of strength from the LGBTQ+ community! 🏳️🌈➡️ Read our full newsletter: https://lnkd.in/gVUMg7rX

Join us for Commemorating Vincent Chin in front of Monterey Park City Hall from 7:00 – 8:00 pm on Sunday, June 23rd. The Chinese American Museum annually dedicates this evening in remembrance of Vincent Chin’s murder, which served as a pivotal point in the Asian American civil rights movement. This annual commemoration allows for the reflection of racial inequality and discrimination that continues to persist in today’s highly polarized social climate, just as it did decades before.  The evening’s program will include special remarks from invited guest speakers and will conclude with a candlelight vigil in remembrance of Vincent Chin. RSVP is not required, and parking can be found throughout the neighborhood streets.

This Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month and Mental Health Awareness Month, we are reminded of the critical importance for in-language, culturally responsive mental health care. That is what Yong Yang — a Koreatown resident killed by law enforcement upon suffering a severe mental health crisis — needed and deserved. At AAPI Equity Alliance, we are committed to building capacity for mental health organizations and cultivating safe spaces for community members geared towards radical healing. We spoke with some of our member organizations (Korean American Family Services (KFAM), NAPAFASA, Search to Involve Pilipino Americans, SSG-Asian Pacific Counseling & Treatment Centers), who shared stories of transformation and hope in light of the tragedy. Because only through collective healing can we truly make meaningful progress. Read our full newsletter here: https://lnkd.in/gh2d8FZu __ #AAPIHeritageMonth #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
