About us
Advancing abilities for people with special needs - since 1951 Abilis (ABLE-ISS), provides state-of-the art care for individuals of all ages and abilities with special needs. A trusted leader in the special needs community for 65 years, Abilis will help you navigate the path from childhood to adulthood, guiding and supporting you at every stage. Through our Therapeutic & Family Advisory Services, Abilis provides Birth-to-Three early intervention and customized therapies for all ages, including: speech/language, occupational, physical, art/music, and a range of behavioral therapy, including applied behavior analysis (ABA) and autism-specific supports. Our services are individualized and provided at home, school, in the community or at our state-of-the art Therapy Center. We provide family education and advocacy support for parents and caregivers to be knowledgeable and successful advocates for their children. Our Life Services program provides transition support for young adults as they graduate from high school which includes social and recreational activities, job training and competitive employment and a full-range of adult day and residential programs. More exciting news this week with the opening of the new Abilis Courthouse Café at the Superior Courthouse in Stamford, Connecticut! This new Café, our 6th we are operating and staffing in Fairfield County, will provide more inclusive jobs for adults with disabilities. Abilis has some very exciting NEWS!! We are thrilled to announce that Abilis has been awarded a $3.78 million grant from the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation for the purchase and renovation of 78 Harvard Avenue in Stamford. THE COHEN ABILIS ADVANCEMENT CENTER will be Abilis' 2nd location in Stamford and will provide 26,000 square feet of wonderful space for more programs and services for more individuals with disabilities in Fairfield County. We are very excited about this news and want to thank the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation for their wonderful support, generosity and partnership. The building will be renovated for accessibility and we should be able to start programs and services there in the fall.
