📄 This week, Acacia submitted a comment in response to the Biden administration's final rule, which is making it more difficult for families and people seeking safety to access life-saving protections. See our full comment here: https://bit.ly/4hEWyXv We are particularly concerned that the final rule discriminates against individuals with mental disabilities who qualify for legal representation, but may now instead be placed in expedited removal proceedings. We call on border officials to implement safeguards to protect the due process rights of these individuals. Under the National Qualified Representative Program (NQRP), Acacia is working with our network of legal service providers to facilitate high-quality legal representation to people with mental disabilities in immigration detention. ⚖️

We agree with Kids in Need of Defense (KIND), defending the human rights and dignity of unaccompanied children is a nonpartisan issue, and it should not be controversial to say so. If you are feeling inspired to make a difference in the lives of immigrants, consider the open legal positions across the country with partners like KIND in the Unaccompanied Children Program here: https://lnkd.in/e_zdxEcu.

Acacia Center for Justice reposted this
Versatile management professional with expertise in administration, financial management, and project management
On this difficult day, I take some solace in my work at New England Justice for Our Neighbors and our partnership with national organizations such as Acacia Center for Justice and the Immigration Law & Justice Network. One client, one step at a time, we can do our part to preserve justice.
We call on the next administration to support real solutions that help communities thrive together, centering family unity, dignity, belonging, and the common good of all people who are and will always be a part of our rich national tapestry.

Kids shouldn't have to defend themselves in court, but it's happening here in the United States. That's why we are committed to making representation accessible. We are training and recruiting lawyers across the country to paid positions in immigration law to increase the odds of kids getting representation. Find a position near you at https://lnkd.in/e_zdxEcu.
