Accessible Pharmacy Services is a comprehensive, home delivery pharmacy service specializing in the needs of the blind, DeafBlind, low vision and disability communities. We were founded by blind and sighted experts in the areas of accessibility, technology and medicine and we are the only provider of its kind. What makes us unique is our ability to educate patients and family members, healthcare providers and caregivers to implement the best medication plan. Our goal is to achieve the best medical outcomes as well as help patients become more independent. Our pharmacy professionals are trained to understand the unique needs of those who are blind and low vision. We can offer both high-tech and no-tech solutions to assist with reminders, refills and error reduction and overall medication management. There are no additional fees for this support. We do everything for you: we will coordinate all of the details with your doctor and insurance provider including helping to keep costs as low as possible. We employ blind, as well as sighted, customer service and sales representatives because we believe that the blind should create solutions for the blind. We encourage our patients to be part of the ongoing process to maximize the solutions. Meet our intern, Erin Williams! We met Erin through Helen Keller Services (HKS) and will be working on digital media projects with her this winter. She is a recent graduate of Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. She majored in Graphic Design and minored in Art History and Digital Media. We are so excited to work with her! While not working on graphic design and media projects, Erin loves to watch her favorite tv shows and sports, hang out with her family, and travel with her parents! We are happy to share Dr. Kelly Wilson, DVM, with Leader Dogs for the Blind, is an Accessible Pharmacy 2023 Vision Healthcare Winner for Veterinarian Specializing in Service and Guide Dogs! Dr. Wilson joined Leader Dogs for the Blind in 2007 as the Assistant Director of Canine Health. During her time with LDB, she has guest lectured at Macomb Community College about careers in veterinary medicine and about Leader Dogs for the Blind. She has also achieve Academy Status in the Southeastern Michigan Veterinary Medical Association and has received over 50 hours of continuing education every year since 2005. She has mentored over 170 students while working with Leader Dogs for the Blind. She is incredibly passionate about what her team does at Leader Dog, and she truly loves her job. She says, “Being a veterinarian is a wonderful job, but being able to help dogs as well as people in my role brings the job satisfaction to a whole new level!” She says the people and dogs she is privileged to work with every day are truly an inspiration to her and she is forever thankful for the opportunity to work with such an amazing organization. We are so excited to share Dr. Aakriti Garg Shukla with Columbia University Irving Medical Center is an Accessible Pharmacy 2023 Vision Healthcare Award winner for Ophthalmologist! Dr. Shukla is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist and Fellowship-Trained Glaucoma and Cataract Specialist. She received her medical degree at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons where she completed her residency and served as Chief Resident. She also has experience and training at Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins, was an Assistant Professor at Wills Eye Hospital, and is currently the Leonard A. Lauder Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Columbia University. Dr. Shukla has received the American Glaucoma Society Mentoring for Advancement of Physician Scientists Grant and the American Acadamy of Ophthalmology Best Paper Award and Secretariat Award. She was also award the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery International Service Grant for her amazing and innovative work in global health initiatives. She serves on several boards, including the World Glaucoma Association Associate Advisory Board and the American Glaucoma Society Glaucoma Screening Task Force, and she is constantly pursuing groundbreaking research in areas of glaucoma, surgical outcomes, and sustainability. We are so thankful for your persistent dedication, your incredible mind, and your passion for ophthalmology and equitable clinical care, Dr. Shukla!
