In the new #MyBarStory spotlight, National Director, Sherriee Detzler, Esq., shares her personal experience on prepping for the #barexam. “Studying for the bar while working full time is challenging, to say the least! But with determination and discipline – you too can have success,” said Sherriee. “My bar review course started just eight weeks before the bar and the day after graduation. No celebration here (that came after bar results). My hour-long daily commute to work was originally planned for catching up with family and friends only to learn this timeslot was precious. So, by week two, I was listening to any supplemental materials I could get my hands on with work until 4:00 pm, a rush hour commute to my law school, and then eating the smushed PB&J sandwich I packed that morning and washing it down with vending machine coffee!” “Weekends were my saving grace with full days of studying, gardening breaks, rejuvenating meals, and planning for the week. I was able to take paid time off for the nine days leading up to the bar – so I had that to look forward to while I sat through hours of bar review lectures. I would have really loved and benefitted from a free Helix coaching session as I was on my own!” “As I drove to the exam site, I accepted and praised myself for doing the best I could – but wishing I had a longer runway to prepare – like the full 20 weeks Helix courses provide. My confidence was boosted by this positive self-talk. I swear it is what carried me to the finish line and successful results,” she added. “Bottom line – working and successfully studying for the bar is achievable – be dedicated, disciplined, and confident!” Keep an eye out for more inspiring stories (like Sherriee’s) in the weeks ahead as #MyBarStory continues! https://ow.ly/lXxE50TL8x6
