Well, it’s finally time to let the cat out of the bag… 4 years in, we’re proud to announce Camber (formerly Juniper), with $50M in funding from Andreessen Horowitz, Craft Ventures, Y Combinator, Manresa Ventures, and many other amazing supporters.
For me personally, the journey here started in early college when I was diagnosed with ADHD. Growing up it was pretty clear to everyone that I had it, but because of health insurance woes and social stigma I had never received a diagnosis. Finally receiving one when I got on my college’s insurance plan was life changing. At the very least: it made me interested in healthcare.
As a healthcare consultant, I got to understand firsthand why insurance is so tricky. Our healthcare payments system is built on mutual distrust. Payors don’t trust providers and providers don’t trust payors, creating a massive amount of extra work to do the one thing everyone can agree is necessary: provide high quality care. That waste means providers spend 25% of their time and money doing admin rather than care. When care is such a scarce resource already, that felt like something worth trying to solve.
We left our jobs 4 years ago to do something easy in theory: leveraging data to help providers get paid by insurance, reliably. Today, we’re fortunate to be able to power billing activities for ~90,000 patients across the US, getting our providers paid with no insurance denials 93% of the time, and helping them collect 98% of the cash they’re owed over time. I cannot overemphasize how proud I am of the team that has gotten us here so far.
To those who have supported our journey here: thank you. There are way, way too many people to adequately thank, but a few in particular:
Justin and Bennett: thank you for investing before we had anything (including a legal entity!)
Jackson: you took a bet on us early, and then continued to double down. We’re privileged to work with you
Arun: thank you for taking countless frantic calls on things we thought mattered (some did, most didn't)
Lainy and Chris: your deep intel has saved the company on multiple occasions
David + Marc: early on you and I had a conversation where he said “I don’t think you know this, but you’ll be a fintech company soon”. Turns out, you were right!
Most of all, everyone who’s taking this bet with us. I could not ask for better partners than Nathan, Celina, and Jade Chan. I am so, so, deeply proud of the team we’ve built - and I’m incredibly grateful to all of you. We will remake healthcare together.
This is, truly, just the beginning. If making healthcare work sounds appealing - reach out. I’d love to have you on our journey.
