CD40, a transmembrane protein belonging to the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily, is predominantly expressed on antigen-presenting cells such as B cells, macrophages, and dendritic cells. Its ligand, CD40 Ligand (CD40L), is primarily found on activated T cells.
