“Viewed through a queer lens, architecture reveals its role in reinforcing or disrupting binary categories of identity—particularly gender and sexuality. However, queerness does not exist in isolation from other axes of identity like race, socio-economic status, and gender, which shape both our individual and collective experiences of space.” "Queer in Architecture: Beyond Binaries" serves as a call to action by citing contemporary queer theory and encouraging readers to think critically about how architecture can be reimagined to create more inclusive spaces that extend beyond the binary. I am honored to have my Thesis Project "Return to Base: How Can Architecture Help Veterans Suffering from PTSD Reintegrate into Society through Therapy, Community and Routines" showcased in Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture Student Showcase 2024 Part IX. Thanks to my professor Pedro A. Rosario-Torres for believing in me and helping me through the toughest journey of my Bachelor's Degree. This is more than my project, this is awareness for the silent struggles of many veterans, as well as a demonstration that Architecture can, in fact, be more than designing pretty spaces, it can be a way of helping people through the use of spacial psychology. I hope this can shine light on the importance of acknowledging the role architects play in the work environment as well as in the world. Architecture is a beautiful career that requires knowledge of everything and anything, it also requires sacrifice, patience and passion, and it usually requires coffee. Tío, thank you for inspiring my project, look at how far it's come. #Architecture #ACSA #StudentCompetition #StudentShowcase #Barch2024 #PTSD #Veterans #MentalHealth #MentalHealthAwareness
