About us
The Association of California Symphony Orchestras was founded in 1969 at Asilomar by a small group of committed orchestra managers who believed in the power of personal networking. More than 40 years later, ACSO remains the hub of California’s vibrant classical music community by providing a variety of services to its 400+ members including networking, mentorship, resource sharing, advocacy, and professional development. Membership is open to orchestras, choruses and classical music presenters of all sizes, symphony leagues and guilds, youth orchestras, festivals, artist management firms, businesses, and individuals associated with orchestras or wishing to access our services. ACSO is governed by a 21-member Board of Directors who hail from arts organizations all over the state of California.

Association of California Symphony Orchestras reposted this
Leave it to Sarah Weber of Association of California Symphony Orchestras to write one of the most on-target and refreshingly transparent blog posts that I've read in some time. There are so many pitfalls of strategic planning. Plans can become nothing more than metrics to evaluate staff (hint: that doesn't drive organizational advancement). They can collect dust on a (digital) shelf, only trotted out as grant attachments. Or the needed people and financial resources aren't in place to move the objectives forward. Instead, take a cue from ACSO and build (what RSC Associates calls) a FUNDABLE strategic plan. They've done a brilliant job of producing a flexible framework that motivates external investment through a compelling vision while giving the internal team a clear set of North Stars to guide decisive action. Now, THAT drives organizational advancement. Applause all around.

Congratulations to Carl St.Clair on his dedication to the Pacific Symphony for 35 years! What an incredible legacy.
Congratulations to Carl St.Clair on receiving special recognition for Lifetime Achievement at the 24th OC Arts Awards! Held Tuesday night in the Samueli Theater and produced by Arts Orange County, this ceremony celebrates individuals who have made lasting contributions to the county’s cultural life. Carl St.Clair was recognized for his remarkable 35 years as Pacific Symphony’s Music Director, serving as a beacon of artistic excellence and inspiration for arts education and community engagement across Orange County. His dedication to music has left an indelible mark on our community. The evening featured a stirring, virtuosic tribute from concertmaster Dennis Kim to honor Maestro St.Clair. Carl shared these heartfelt words: “I’ve tried my best at every rehearsal and every concert and every note and every phrase to just put my whole heart into it. The whole institution of the Pacific Symphony does the very same thing because you, Orange County, the arts community, and Orange County at large, you are sitting by our side. You are inspiring us to be the very best orchestra that Orange County deserves.” We’re so proud to celebrate Carl’s incredible achievements and his profound impact on the arts in Orange County! Luc Edouard Eldridge is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, and songwriter pursuing his bachelor’s degree in Classical Composition at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music and was ACSO's summer 2024 Conference and Marketing Intern. Thank you to the Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture for providing grant funding to support Luc's internship. In this blog, he shares his experience attending the ACSO 2024 Annual Conference and learning about the world of orchestra administration for the first time. "I was totally unaware of the myriad of duties that are crucial for running an orchestra. Positions such as community outreach, marketing, HR, and fundraising were all professions that I didn't realize were within the orchestra administration world." Happy Classical Music Month! 🎻🎼 In 1994, President Bill Clinton proclaimed September to be Classical Music Month. His proclamation said, in part, "Classical music is a celebration of artistic excellence. Great art endures through the ages, and in the United States we have embraced that great music and incorporated it into the American experience." If you’re looking for ways to celebrate, Pacific Symphony has you covered! For last year’s celebration, they shared a blog post called “Top 10 Ways to Celebrate Classical Music Month in September 2023.” Read it here. https://rb.gy/3nyh6l. #orchestra #ClassicalMusicMonth

Thank you for being with us David Taylor!
What an end to the year. I had an absolute blast at the Association of California Symphony Orchestras conference in San Francisco Huge thanks to Sarah Weber, Caroline Bamforth, CMP, CMM, and the whole ACSO team and board for the invite to speak and the amazing welcome. After months of Zooms calls, I FINALLY got to meet Allison Lambacher from St. Louis Symphony Orchestra in person!!! We were presenting "The Orchestra of Influence - empowering musicians to be digital ambassadors", and I can't wait to talk more about this as we start putting words into action in the fall. Too many people to mention who I had great talks with, but shout outs to Maarten W. from Symphony Media and Paola Cacciatori and Jan Pilgaard Carlsen from Artelize. And as always, great to catch up with Aubrey Bergauer. Huge thanks to San Francisco Symphony for hosting. What a hall and what a city. Even if the self driving taxis do terrify me slightly... Till next year! #Orchestra #SanFrancisco #Conference #ClassicalMusic
