We wanted to look back at our work on the visual identity with the Harvard Innovation Labs. The goal was to create a brand identity that would represent the dynamic ecosystem of entrepreneurs and innovators across all 13 Harvard schools. This would be a reflection of the “One Harvard” vision. We were honored to be featured on abdz.do, one of the most prestigious blogs on design, hosting 3 million design enthusiasts a month from all over the globe. Special recognition to Omino Gardezi and Raquel pinto Pinto for your contribution to the project. https://lnkd.in/eXHG6xeG

Reminiscing. FlowerBomb was showcased around the launch of the level-boarding platform and bus only lanes in City of Everett, MA. Providing a moment of joy for commuters, along with bouquets to take along with them on their journey, Flowerbomb overtook the School Street bus stop in Everett Square. Thank you again to our florist, Krissy Price, and many others for helping us create beautiful moments in our public transit systems. https://lnkd.in/exBgm4EH

In review of the Boston Bus Rapid Transit Initiative, social media can hold so much power. When it comes to showcasing a part of our community that is often recognized as sterile and un-enjoyable, our riders found it no difficult task to bring the beauty of the bus to the light. The “Beauty and the Bus” campaign quickly brought recognition to Boston’s transit systems which encouraged riders to view the bus, and their commute, through a beautifying lens. Photographers from Instagram Boston and others roamed the streets to capture the most beautiful moments. We received hundreds of photos that showcased the bus more beautifully than we could have imagined.

For the past decade, we have had the privilege of serving as Creative Director for the Boston BRT Initiative, a $11 million project led by the Barr Foundation to transform the commuter bus experience in Greater Boston. Our mission was ambitious - to bring world-class bus rapid transit (BRT) systems to Boston, providing riders with the fast, reliable, and joyful transit experience they deserve. Through visionary urban planning and a creative lens we utilized technical innovation and artistic storytelling, we advocated for dedicated bus lanes, modernized stations, seamless boarding, and so much more. While much work remains, we are proud that our efforts helped shift perceptions, secure over 42 miles of new bus lanes, build capabilities at the MBTA, and pilot improvements across 7 communities. Most importantly, we put riders at the center, infusing every aspect with beauty, art, joy and recognition of the importance of better transit experiences everywhere. https://lnkd.in/ewvQshba

In partnership with The Human Architecture and Planning Institute - theHAPI.org we had the pleasure of sharing the Flower Walk project at the 13th Annual Street Talks at the Old South Meeting House in Boston, hosted by LIVABLE STREETS TRANSPORTATION ALLIANCE OF BOSTON INC. Public transit spaces tend to be displeasing to the eye, overlooked, and under-stimulating for commuters. We see these spaces as an opportunity for change with the challenge of fostering joy while measuring the impact of creative transformations. With the use of iMotions technology, commonly used in the automotive industry, we were able to track how the Flower walk design impacts commuters through eye-tracking data. Using this technology at every stage of the process informed us in finalizing the best outcome. Before the Flower Walk intervention in City of Chelsea, MA the bus stop was overlooked, now it is non-consciously bringing a joyful focus to the commuter experience. Why should we settle when measuring the commuter experience? By designing for joy we are creating more exciting and inclusive community engagement. https://lnkd.in/eJ9hn6tY

Flower Walk - “It’s not just about functionality, but also about creating an experience that is joyful.” Our partnership with the Barr Foundation on the Bus Rapid Transit Initiative aimed to innovate the mobility space through a fresh approach to transit. Our collaborations with local artists such as Max Pro and StudioFul Designs, community organizations such as La Colaborativa and the The Human Architecture and Planning Institute - theHAPI.org, and Chelsea’s Department of Public Works successfully showcased the importance of art and nature in urban environments. Flower Walk creates a joyful space for commuters waiting for their bus, while also delivering a more accessible street. https://lnkd.in/d_WH-2QF

This past summer we lead the creative direction and vision for #FlowerWalk which transformed the Chelsea bus stop between Broadway and 3rd into an immersive urban forest, blending art and nature. This public art project seamlessly integrated accessibility, environment, sustainability, and community enrichment. Live plantings and graphic floral motifs surrounded commuters in a vibrant floral landscape. The installation featured an 80-foot @ZICLA level-boarding platform, making a faster, more accessible commute. Landscape design featured 25-foot trees, 175 perennial flowers and plants, and an ergonomic Woodluck! bench making the street transformation complete. Thank you for the night and day efforts from our team and partners from City of Chelsea, Chelsea's Department of Public works, ITDP United States, StudioFulDesigns, Denterlein, La Colaborativa, MBTA, Civic Space Collaborative, The Human Architecture and Planning Institute - theHAPI.org and numerous others. Equipped with vibrant paint and a vision we brought Flower Walk to life, transforming the transit experience in Chelsea.

As 2023 comes to an end, we at Ad Hoc Industries reflect on a year filled with innovative projects and partnerships. One highlight was our work with Harvard Innovation Labs on their President's Innovation Challenge. This annual program awarded over $500,000 in to forward-thinking student and alumni startups spanning healthcare, technology, education, and sustainability. Ad Hoc is proud to support such a cross-disciplinary initiative that catalyzes entrepreneurship within the Harvard community. The award ceremony recognized inspiring ventures like AI-generated creative assets, medical mentorships for minority students, and vision restoration technologies. With over 2,000 attendees, the event demonstrated the momentum behind Harvard's mission to drive change through innovation. We look forward to continuing meaningful, forward thinking collaborations like this in the new year. https://lnkd.in/gp8zWyR2

Art on the Move! an art and mobility intervention in Lynn, Ma. We enhanced the bus travel experience for residents of Lynn with the transformation of 7 bus stops into mobility hubs with murals by highly acclaimed local artists such as Grhimm Xavier, Whitney Burdge, Sunil Gulab, Jah'Nyah Spencer, Howie Green, Ruth Henry, and Trinidad Martinez. Then with the help of our transportation advocates we developed colorful, more intuitive, new wayfinding map and signage design to help riders navigate bus connections and key locations across the city with ease. These Vibrant art installations collectively create an exhibit which brings residents together through immersion in modern art as they wait, while new bike racks expand mobility options around Lynn. This artistic investment in public infrastructure reminds us that when our cities care for all types of spaces, it cares for all people. This is placemaking through an equitable lens - simplifying, beautifying, and connecting communities.🤝🚌 Thank you to our partners! ITDP United States, newlynncoalition, Denterlein and more!
