Hurricane Helene hit the U.S. last week, killing hundreds of people and causing massive destruction across the Southeast. Our analysts examined media coverage of the storm and its aftermath in our Topic of the Week. Articles from the CNN website and the New York Post were found to be the most balanced and reliable. Both articles received a bias score of 0 and a reliability score in the "mix of fact reporting and analysis or simple fact reporting" section of the Media Bias Chart. An article from New Republic and a video from The Majority Report with Sam Seder were both found to have a "strong left" bias and a reliability score in the "analysis or other issues" range. The New Republic article, for example, is focused on analyzing hurricane reporting by Fox News. Reporting on "The Ingraham Angle" on Fox News Channel had a "strong right" bias and was found to have opinions that favored former President Trump. An article from RedState had a similar bias score but was rated lower for reliability because it was found to be misleading and unfair. https://lnkd.in/gMhbQDUe

Music producer Sean "Diddy" Combs was arrested Sept. 16 and charged with federal racketeering and sex trafficking. Our team analyzed six articles and videos about the arrest for our Topic of the Week. Four items from our content set were found to have balanced coverage, with no bias detected. Two of them — articles from the BBC and from the NewsNation website — also received high reliability scores that put them in the "mix of fact reporting and analysis or simple fact reporting" category. Content from Salon and TYT: The Young Turks, however, received much lower reliability scores. The video from The Young Turks received a score in the "analysis or other issues" range. The Salon article was placed in the "opinion or other issues" section. The lowest scores came from an article from The Blaze and an episode of The Benny Show podcast. Reporting from The Blaze received a "strong right" bias score and a reliability rating in the "selective or incomplete/unfair persuasion/propaganda" category. The Benny Show also received a "strong right" bias rating, but its content was found to contain inaccurate or fabricated information, placing it at the bottom of the Media Bias Chart. https://lnkd.in/eYgqqjxi
