AGI is proud to share yet another successful finish at our Junior Lifeguard Building project in Newport Beach, California. ⭐ Project Overview: AGI was tasked with improving subsurface conditions for the new Junior Lifeguard Building. Using Rapid Impact Compaction (RIC), we densified the existing fill soils, increasing bearing capacity and reducing settlement to meet stringent standards. ⭐ Results: GEOCON WEST INC / GEOCON performed post-improvement Standard Penetration Tests (SPTs) to verify the soil achieved adequate compaction and achieved the minimum SPT values required at each test location. ⭐ Services Provided: Densification of Existing Fills Increased Bearing Capacity Reduced Settlement We extend our heartfelt thanks to our project partners: the City of Newport Beach who entrusted us with this important project; Telacu Construction Management, the general contractor, for their collaboration and support; and Geocon West, Inc., for their diligent geotechnical engineering and testing. Celebrating the successful completion of 1450 Owens project, located in San Francisco, CA! 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗔𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀: AGI implemented four crucial ground improvement techniques to mitigate liquefaction risk and settlement: ✔️ Wick Drains ✔️ Vibro Replacement ✔️ Displacement Grouted Columns (DGCs) ✔️ Continuous Flight Auger piles (CFAs) These methods were carefully selected to address the specific geotechnical challenges posed by liquifiable fill and Bay Mud conditions, providing stability and resilience to the development. 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀: The strategic use of wick drains for rapid pore pressure dissipation, alongside the precise deployment of CFAs and DGCs in vibration-sensitive zones, reflects AGI's commitment to establishing innovative cost saving engineering solutions. Another AGI Success Story: Project Basie in Woodburn, Oregon Project Basie involved ground improvement for a 4.5-story building covering 823,000 square feet, completed in just four months. The project team included Advanced Geosolutions, Inc (AGI) and AGI-Fudo, JV as the design-build contractors, Trammell Crow Company as the developer, Layton Construction., as the general contractor, and NV5, Inc. (previously GeoDesign, Inc.) as the geotechnical engineer. The project site presented two major geotechnical challenges: ❌ Liquefaction Settlement: The soil was susceptible to liquefaction during earthquakes, potentially causing settlement and structural damage. ❌ Deep Compressible Soils: The presence of deep soft soils posed a risk of ongoing settlement over time. To address these challenges, AGI implemented a state-of-the-art hybrid ground improvement system: ✔️ Displacement Grouted Columns (DGC) & Load Transfer Platform (LTP): These technologies were installed beneath the building's slab to create a stable platform and distribute loads evenly. ✔️ Deep Soil Mixing (DSM) Columns: Over 2,200 DSM columns were strategically installed, reaching depths of up to 75 feet, to reinforce the soil and mitigate liquefaction risks. The successful implementation of this hybrid system is yet another example of how AGI can push the limits of possibilities all the while keeping on schedule and reducing overall project costs.
