AdventHealth Riverview is officially open! 💙 Last night, AdventHealth leadership, board members, donors, community partners and more gathered to cut the ribbon for the new AdventHealth Riverview hospital, marking a significant step in providing high-quality health care for the rapidly growing South Hillsborough County area. The new 282,000 square-foot hospital opens with 82 beds, and its leading-edge facilities include surgery rooms equipped with mobile X-ray machines, a hybrid operating room for advanced vascular and cardiac procedures, three of the newest Da Vinci 5 surgical robotic systems, and a secure mother and baby unit with eight labor and delivery rooms with two c-section rooms contained within the unit. AdventHealth Riverview will also serve as a major job creator, employing more than 2,000 people, contributing to the economic development of South Hillsborough County and attracting top talent to the area. Thank you to AdventHealth President and CEO Terry Shaw and Senior Executive Vice President, Group CEO for Florida and Clinical Randy Haffner for joining us for the celebration on this special evening. The doors are open and our AdventHealth Riverview team is ready to provide whole-person care for the Riverview community!

Today is a big day for AdventHealth and Hillsborough County. After years of anticipation and preparation, AdventHealth Riverview is open – and not a day too soon. We faced many challenges, including a global pandemic, labor and supply shortages and several hurricanes. But our incredible team came together multiple times to overcome hurdles and continue on with construction, hiring, training, and other work necessary to make AdventHealth Riverview’s opening a (on-schedule!) reality.   The new facility is AdventHealth’s 33rd full-service hospital in Florida and third in Hillsborough County. It will allow us to bring whole-person care to South Hillsborough at a time when it’s desperately needed. Hillsborough is the fastest-growing county in Florida and was hit hard by hurricanes Helene and Milton. We want Riverview to be not just a place for physical treatment but a sanctuary of healing and beacon of hope for the community.   I am thrilled that we can offer a wide range of specialties from obstetrics to bariatrics and leading-edge technology, like our cath lab, hybrid operating room, and fifth-generation da Vinci surgical robots, but it is the medical expertise of our skilled clinicians and compassion of all our team members that really enable us to fulfill our mission of Extending the Healing Ministry of Christ.    I want to say a special thank you to Riverview’s CEO and medical leadership: Jason Newmyer, president and CEO Dr. Alex Garcia, chief of staff Dr. Venkat Kanthimanthinathan, vice chief of staff Dr. Faheem Ahmad, chief of medicine Adithya Suresh, MD FACS RPVI, chief of surgery Dr. Cynthia Rowell DNP, MBA, RN, NEA-BC, chief nursing officer

Please join us in wishing happy birthday to our Chief Barking Officer, Wilbur! 🐶 Wilbur's official birthday was shortly following Hurricane Milton, but we are excited to wish him a wonderful belated birthday now that the storm has passed. Thank you for bringing countless smiles to the faces of our patients and team members, Wilbur!

Finding fuel has been a challenge for many people in our area following Hurricane Milton. To support our team members as they continue to provide whole-person care for our communities, AdventHealth West Florida Division has provided more than 25,000 gallons of gas and 10,000 gallons of diesel to our team members across 14 hospital campuses. Fuel tankers brought in from out of state have rotated between our hospitals to ensure that team members who need gas have access to it.

As Floridians begin to assess and clean up from the damage left in Milton’s wake, it’s a good time to report on the state of our AdventHealth hospitals and the tremendous work of our teams. Though some of our AdventHealth West Florida hospitals did have minor facility damage, patient care was not affected, thanks to the coordinated and swift efforts of our team members. All AdventHealth hospitals and freestanding emergency departments in the state of Florida — including the Tampa Bay area — are open and accepting patients. Our continuous service throughout the storm would not have been possible without the commitment of our team members, from our clinicians giving direct patient care to our facilities crew monitoring generators and fighting back water incursions. The combined effort and dedication of each person brought us through this unprecedented storm. I thank everyone from the bottom of my heart.

As Floridians prep for Hurricane Milton, I want to thank all of our AdventHealth Central Florida Division, AdventHealth West Florida Division, and AdventHealth East Florida Division team members and physicians who have worked tirelessly to ensure we continue to provide world-class care to our neighbors throughout the storm, from Tampa Bay to Orlando to the East Florida coast.   I'd also like to thank our state and local partners, including Gov. Ron DeSantis, Secretary Jason Weida, Emergency Management Executive Director Kevin Guthrie and the Florida Hospital Association, and the dozens of city and county emergency response teams, for the many ways they're ensuring we are safe during and after the storm. We appreciate their commitment to the health and wellbeing of all Floridians.    The hard work and dedication of our team members, physicians, and emergency responders throughout the state has not gone unnoticed. We are praying for you, and all in the path of Hurricane Milton.

With Milton about to arrive, many folks have left the state, and most of those who remain have battened down the hatches and prepared to shelter in place with their families. But some people — health care and emergency service personnel — don’t stay home. They go into work, staff command centers, take extra shifts, sleep on floors and cots, put themselves in peril at times, and do whatever is necessary to meet the critical needs of the community. They did it with Helene. They’ll do it with Milton. They do it every. Single. Time.   Thank you, in advance, to our health care and emergency heroes and to your families, who sacrifice for all of us as well. We are so grateful for all you do!
