Adventure Travel for Women of All Ages

About us

Adventures in Good Company was founded in 1999 by Marian Marbury. Marian guided for a non-profit called Woodswomen for over a decade before starting AGC. Woodswomen was the first organization to offer a women-in-leadership course that trained women to become guides in the outdoor travel industry. When Woodswoman closed its doors in 1999, Marian wanted to continue offering trips for women based on the same philosophy, which included valuing emotional and physical safety, personal choice and individual goals, healthy relationships with other people and the environment, and valuing women and their way of knowing. Over the next 20 years the company steadily grew, attracting both participants and guides who share this vision of what adventure travel should be.

  • Did you know that America’s forests absorb over 800 million tons of carbon annually?! This is HUGE in helping reduce the effects of climate change! 🍃 We care deeply about our planet and the trees and forests that reside in it. We also value creating a business that gives back to nature, which is why we are committed to our partnership with One Tree Planted to plant trees for biodiversity. 💚 For each AGC traveler in 2024 so far, we’ve made a small donation to One Tree Planted to plant five trees in the Appalachia forest. Since announcing our partnership at the beginning of 2024, we’ve helped plant 2,205 trees. These donations increase forest cover, restore holistic ecosystems and habitats, improve soil stability by restoring degraded areas, and more. 🌲🌳 We are proud to support reforestation with One Tree Planted as part of our commitment to sustainability. See below some of the tree planting work that has been done in the Appalachia forest by One Tree Planted.

  • National Forest Week isn't just about celebrating our more than 150 magnificent national forests; it's a crucial reminder of their vital role in our lives. Here's a breakdown of why National Forest Week matters: 1. Raising Awareness: Many people underestimate the vastness and importance of national forests. Forest Week spotlights these incredible resources and their ecological diversity. 2. Appreciation for Benefits: Forests provide a multitude of benefits, often taken for granted. From clean air and water to recreation and habitat, Forest Week reminds us of these services and the need to sustain them. 3. Inspiration for Action: Forest Week serves as a call to action. It inspires people to get involved in conservation efforts, whether through volunteering, planting trees, or simply making conscious choices that benefit forests. 4. Promoting Mental and Physical Well-being: Spending time in nature has proven benefits for mental and physical health. Forest Week encourages people to explore these natural spaces, reducing stress and improving overall well-being. 5. Uniting for a Common Goal: Forest Week brings together communities, organizations, and individuals with a shared interest in protecting our forests. This collaborative spirit fosters a sense of responsibility and drives positive change. National Forest Week reminds us of forests' vital role in our well-being and the need to ensure their health for future generations. At AGC, we share this commitment. We believe feeling connected to the natural world is both a human need and deeply rejuvenating. That's why we're dedicated to being a leader in sustainable travel, allowing our customers to experience the beauty of forests while fostering responsible practices. • AGC was built on the foundation the Woodswomen set forth in 1977, whose focus was on adventure travel that taught, guided, and elevated women. Woodswomen provided a safe place where women could flourish while learning new skills, sharing knowledge, and propelling each other forward so everyone in the group could reach new heights.   Always pushing for equality, Woodswomen ran special programs that focused on inclusion. One in particular served the LGBTQ+ community and its allies, running trips for youth with opportunities to canoe, ski, rock climb, and hike.   These fun adventures exposed participants to the outdoors and provided them with positive interactions and experiences to boost their self-esteem, increase their affinity for nature, and plant the seeds for building a loving community.   AGC continues to embody these values by creating a welcoming atmosphere where everyone can feel comfortable being themselves. ✨

  • “Whether it’s a short getaway or a longer adventure, solo travel is becoming a way for moms and retired women to recharge and reconnect with themselves. It’s all about self-care and personal growth, and I think we’ll see more and more moms embracing solo travel in the future.” Kelly Hutton Kimple, our CEO. We love this mention in The Globe and Mail and see women becoming more adventurous and open to exploring the wonders of a solo trip! Is that something you experienced yourself or would love to? • Adventures In Good Company: Empowering Solo Women Travelers https://hubs.la/Q02qzwCM0 "There are a multitude of benefits of traveling with a women-only group, but the biggest benefit, in my opinion, is the social connection and support. A small, supportive group of other women creates a safe environment to open up and share your dreams, fears, and perspectives. It also allows women to bond over shared experience, overcome challenges, and create opportunities to relate to one another." - Our CEO, Kelly Kimple. We are beyond grateful for this mention in Forbes and the great article written by Everett Potter! It's been 25 years that we have been dedicating ourselves to building a purpose-driven journey – an adventure that includes thoughtful preparation, the intention behind the places and activities of an itinerary, and being mindful of what is experienced along the way. What we want to accomplish with each travel is a lot more than seeing the beauties of the world (but that, too!). We want to foster community, grow as individuals, and make unforgettable memories.
