We had a great first day at the Worlds of Opportunity Career Expo hosted by Lynchburg Regional Business Alliance and Central Virginia Community College. This is an event for 7th and 8th graders in the Lynchburg area to provide hands-on activities for students and raise awareness of the extraordinary career pathways in our region. We teamed with several other companies to teach students about manufacturing which even included making their very own toolboxes!

Today we enjoyed hosting Liberty University students from Dr. Schwerha’s Industrial & Systems Engineering class. It was a great opportunity to give the students real-world exposure of how the processes and flow of a manufacturing facility are implemented!

One of our favorite days of the year is when the Aerofin Fall Collection arrives. After a plant wide contest open to our employees and family members, the following designs were chosen and given to all employees. This year we had some fun and created several versions of our “Team” shirts to show our support for our favorite nearby colleges. Each employee got to pick one…they were labeled: “The Local”, “Super Awesome / Best Design Ever”, and “Need to Change the Oil in My Car So I don’t Care if My Shirt Gets Ruined”. We’ll let you figure out which shirt goes with what!

Aerofin is building its workforce in the Lynchburg region through collaborative partnerships with Virginia Career Works - Central Region and Virginia Works. This company recognizes the value of developing its own talent, with referrals of qualified job seekers from the WIOA Title I program. They're leveraging federal funds to support on-the-job training of their workers, allowing career changers with an aptitude for manufacturing to gain new skills and grow in a new vocational path. This partnership is supported by WIOA Title I Career Navigator, Denise Hutton, CWE, VWDP. This week, Virginia's Deputy Secretary of Labor for Workforce Development Nicole Overley and Deputy Commissioner of External Affairs for Virginia Works Kathy Byron toured Aerofin to learn more about this successful effort.

Today we helped "Give Blood / Give Life" as Aerofin hosted an on-site blood drive for the American Red Cross - Blue Ridge Virginia Chapter. As a group, we were able to donate over 35 units of blood!
