Congratulations to our AFCEC team members Kirk Phillips and Micheal Zapata who were recently selected as winners of FEMP’s Professional Achievement Award. Kirk Phillips, director of Air Force Office of Energy Assurance, pioneered the first-ever funding from the Energy Resilience Conservation and Investment Program for an Energy Savings Performance Contract and led a first-of-its-kind new energy solutions for geothermal power and geological hydrogen. Micheal Zapata, division chief for energy program execution at AFOEA, directed and oversaw construction of the first-in-DoD liquified natural gas storage plant at Misawa Air Base, Japan, and executed a $100 million water treatment plant project to water ensure a long-term and sustainable water supply from the Snake River to Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho. Our Airfield Pavement Evaluation Team is making sure airfields around the world are mission ready! With 21 experts based at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, the APE team manages over 2 billion sq. ft. of airfield pavement, visiting active-duty bases or contingency locations across the Indo-Pacific, Europe and beyond. The team inspects, evaluates and determines the strength of airfield pavement and subsurface soil by using advanced techniques and tools. The Basic Military Training West Campus continuous to expand at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, reaching another milestone with a $238 million contract awarded for the third of four planned Airmen Training Complex facilities.
