“I spent my whole career paying into Social Security and I worked incredibly hard, sometimes risking my own life, to earn these benefits. No one elected Elon Musk. I don’t care how rich he is — he has no right to our private data, and to threaten to shut off Social Security for millions of retirees.” – Shandala Richburg, a retired Maryland corrections officer and president of AFSCME Maryland Retiree Chapter 1. https://lnkd.in/g6Miugua

AFSCME members in corrections have fought for-profit prison companies and the anti-union extremists who want to enrich themselves at their expense. But these same companies are now giddy about raking in record-breaking profits from the federal government. Why? Because of an executive order by this new administration. Stand up and say no to private prisons. https://lnkd.in/gJJK9svw

The firings of probationary federal employees by the Office of Personnel Management are illegal and must stop immediately, a federal judge ruled last week. The case was brought by a coalition of groups, including AFSCME and UNAC/UHCP. “We know this decision is just a first step, but it gives federal employees a respite,” said AFSCME President Lee Saunders. https://lnkd.in/gmxYdiJz
