AGRARSENSE Chips JU Project

🚀 Drönarsystemet som tas fram som prototyp inom EU-projektet AGRARSENSE Chips JU Project är nu i full drift! 🎉 Drönaren är specialanpassad på RISE Research Institutes of Sweden och vi har nu nått en spännande milstolpe för cyber- och funktionssäkerhet inom skogsindustrin.  - Att ha ett fullt fungerande och integrerat drönarsystem med autopilotfunktioner och avancerad sensorutrustning innebär att vi ligger i framkant. Vår metodutveckling stödjer näringslivet i att utveckla nya tillämpningsområden för drönare och deras integration. Metodutveckling och prototypande sker alltid hand i hand hos oss, vilket innebär att vi till slut förstår tekniken på djup nivå, och det gör vi idag, säger Marvin Damschen, forskare och ansvarig för projektet på RISE. Vad är nästa steg? - Nu ska vi samla in data och undersöka olika användarfall där drönaren kan öka säkerheten i samverkan med skogsmaskiner. Detta ska vi göra i nära samarbete med Komatsu Forest.     Vad innebär det för skogsindustrin framåt? - Betydande möjligheter till ökad effektivitet och hållbarhet, men det medför också funktionssäkerhetsrisker såsom minskad mänsklig tillsyn eller oförutsägbart maskinbeteende. Drönare kan förbättra säkerheten, då de ger ett unikt flygperspektiv som möjliggör övervakning av riskområden i realtid. Men det kräver ett uppkopplat arbetsområde som i sin tur kan medföra cybersäkerhetsrisker. Samspelet mellan funktionssäkerhet och cybersäkerhet är vår expertis och vårt fokus, förklarar Marvin Damschen.    När i framtiden kan vi se ett automatiserat skogsbruk? - Nu fokuserar vi på automatiseringen av transport av stockar. Jämfört med vägtransporter har vi en mycket komplex terräng men också mycket lägre hastigheter och färre situationer med flera aktörer inblandade. Enligt min mening är det möjligt att vi kan se produktionsnära prototyper till 2030. Att automatisera själva skördeprocessen innebär större risker och kräver en mänsklig operatör. By capturing enhanced electrophysiological signals, these electrodes are giving us the opportunity to gain deeper insights into how plants respond to stress—like drought or nutrient deficits—days before any visual symptoms appear. Early detection means plant driven agronomic decisions, healthier crops, more sustainable agriculture and more secure food supplies. Now this is Off-Highway!🌲🌳 Two weeks ago, we from TTControl, had the pleasure of visiting Komatsu Forest for an integration meeting of the Forestry Use Case within the AGRARSENSE Chips JU Project. One of the big advantages of the project is, that we have the real machines available and we can directly see what the challenges are in their working environment. We manage to integrate our embedded solution into the harvester and collect first measurement data for the integrated sensors. It was a great experience to be actually outside in the forest and not only in the labs, to really experience how these machines work, sound and feel. Lapland University of Applied Sciences ja asiantuntija Aleksi Narkilahti mukana Chips JU ja Business Finland-rahoitteisessa hankkeessa, jossa kehitetään autonomista ajokonetta. This enables the use of existing laboratory equipment or the combination of microfluidic devices from different vendors. Microfluidics merging with #labautomation having formats like the #microtiterplate or #microscopy slide and fluidic interfaces like #miniluer , #olive standardization in action. Exciting milestone this week in the AGRARSENSE Chips JU Project! Our Airolit Explorian XLT drone, specially customized at RISE Research Institutes of Sweden for researching safety in automated forestry operations, is now fully operational. It was a perfect opportunity to connect with Claes Kjölhede and Cameron Turnbull from Airolit during this phase. Huge thanks for your invaluable support and for capturing some amazing footage (more to come soon!). Biosensors, biomaterials, AgroTech etc. It was pleasure to co-chair one of the track with Giuseppe Cantarella and be part of esteemed team of this year's conference. Thanks to Luisa Petti and Niels Benson for invitation. It was more fun presenting own work in collaboration with @vivent  team of Andrzej Kurenda Moritz Graeff,  Marvin Damschen where Graphene based electrode are being used in plant electrophysiology for remote plant 'health' monitoring utilizing machine learning algorithms - towards Smart and Sustainable agriculture. Thanks to AGRARSENSE Chips JU Project and Emerge Project for this opportunity to represent RISE Research Institutes of Sweden at this event. From ultraflexible tiny microelectronics with RISC V open source instructions sets by Pragmatic, to amazing biosensors, and futuristic Smart and Sustainable AgroTech, to printers going in Space; all talks were intriguing and inspiring, exuberant and exciting. It was pleasure meeting old scientist connections Esma Ismailova and colleagues; and make lot more contacts for future collaborations, taking science for the benefit of humanity. What can be more fun than seeing our own PhD work going far and beyond from tiny seedling sowed a decade ago, now becoming a big prototype detecting single molecules for point of care diagnostics thanks to Prof. Luisa Torsi.   And meeting the EMERGE'ians and talking about EMERGE is always fun and pleasure - Hans Kleemann & Pedro Barquinha. With Inspiring talk from Hans on Leaftronics - towards sustainable plant leaf based substrates for future eco-friendly PCBs.

This week we had the privilege of hosting two insightful talks on leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) in software engineering and cybersecurity at RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, sparking great conversations about their potential and challenges in real-world applications. 🤩 ✨ Ranim Khojah, PhD student at Chalmers University of Technology, presented a compelling talk on the usage, design, and evaluation of chatbots in software engineering. The talk focused on how LLM-powered chatbots are transforming the software engineering landscape and the path forward for research in this space. ✨ Fikret Mert Gültekin and Oscar Lilja, master students from Chalmers University of Technology, presented their master thesis on how LLMs can be utilized for cybersecurity risk assessment in autonomous forestry machines. Their research was a collaboration between RISE and Chalmers and also part of the EU-funded AGRARSENSE Chips JU Project. It explored innovative uses of LLMs as evaluation tools, assisting chatbots, and more. This included evaluations with experts from RISE and Komatsu Forest. While trust remains a challenge, their findings highlighted the readiness of experts to adopt these technologies. Big thank you to the supervising team Mazen Mohamad, Ranim Khojah, Rebekka Wohlrab!
