⭐Call for artists!⭐ AIGA Chicago is excited to announce that it will be creating its first-ever community-designed card deck! In celebration of Hispanic Heritage month, AIGA Chicago members will create a Lotería card deck. For the uninitiated, Loteria is a unique game that uses a special deck. We have details on the game itself below. For the event, each individual face of the card will be designed by a different member of the AIGA Chicago community. There are 54 cards in total, so 54 slots will be available. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Once all designs are completed and the decks are printed, we’ll host a launch party where we can all play Lotería with the new decks! To participate, you must be an AIGA Chicago member. If you are not an AIGA Chicago member, there is currently a membership special! Starting September 1st, all new AIGA members can enjoy free membership for the remainder of 2024 when they join for 2025. That’s right—by signing up now, new members get access from September 2024 through December 2025 for just the 12-month rate. The application to design one of the cards can be found at https://lnkd.in/g3CUy5KN We're asking for $5 to participate to support organizing the event. Please note that AIGA Chicago reserves the right to approve or reject designs for quality assurance. Application closes September 11. If you have any questions about participation, please email irina@chicago.aiga.org . . . What is Lotería? Lotería is a game similar to bingo, with a Mexican twist. It’s played using a deck of 54 illustrated cards and colorful boards populated with images and phrases related to hispanic folklore and culture. You need at least three people to play, with one of the players acting as el griton, or yeller, who calls out the cards for competing players. As el griton calls out the cards one by one, players fill out their board, called tablas, as you would in a game of bingo. The point of the game is to be the first to fill your card and shout buenas or lotería to declare your victory! . . . #AIGAChicago #DesignCommunity #DesignChi #HispanicHeritageMonth #loteria
