Earlier this month, Maj. Austin Baker, a Typhoon and Hawk T1 Developmental Test Pilot under the Air Force District of Washington, was recognized as one of the top exchange officers between the United States and the United Kingdom during the Royal Air Force Museum American Foundation’s annual Spirit of the Battle of Britain Banquet in Washington, D.C. Baker was presented the award by Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall and Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton, Chief of the Air Staff RAF. Since 2012, RAMAF has presented the Sword of Honor to the Royal Air Force Officer and United States Air Force Officer who have contributed the most in the previous year to relations between both nations and their air forces. During his time with the RAF 41 Test and Evaluation Squadron, Baker worked with his RAF counterparts to develop next-generation Typhoon force combat capability, resulting in enhanced capability and cooperation with NATO and industry partners; guided military and industry partners in developing advanced Electronic Attack and Human Machine Interfacing capabilities, and oversaw the certification of the Hawk Synthetic Training Facility at RAF Valley and collected safety-critical flight-test data to inform future simulator upgrades. Join us in congratulating Maj. Baker on his tremendous achievement! United States Air Force, Royal Air Force (RAF), British Embassy Washington

Air Force District of Washington reposted this
Long before European explorers sailed to North America, Native American and Alaska Native Nations made this land their home. Their story is of resilience, survival and determination to preserve cultures, identities and ways of life. On #IndigenousPeoplesDay, we honor that perseverance and courage and show our gratitude for the many contributions that Indigenous peoples have made to our world.

September 20 is National Prisoners of War/Missing in Action (POW/MIA) Recognition Day. Today, we remember the debt we owe to our POWs and MIAs and to their families. #ICYMI: Last Monday, United States Air Force Col. (Ret.) Joe Kittinger was laid to rest in Section 36 of Arlington National Cemetery. In 1972, while serving during the Vietnam War, Kittinger was captured and became a prsioner of war for 11 months in Hoa Lo Prison when his F-4D Phantom jet was shot down. On Monday, September 9, Airmen from the United States Air Force Honor Guard and the U.S. Air Force Ceremonial Brass conducted military funeral honors with funeral escort for United States Air Force Col. Joseph Kittinger, Jr., in Section 36 of Arlington National Cemetery. Kittinger, who enlisted in the Air Force in 1949, participated in several pre-space race projects and was part of hundreds of flight missions during the Vietnam War. As a part of Project Excelsior, Kittinger set a world record for highest parachute jump and freefall at a height of 102,800 feet - a record that was held for more than 50 years. In 1972, Kittinger became a prisoner of war for 11 months in Hoa Lo Prison when his F-4D Phantom jet was shot down. Kittinger retired from the Air Force in 1982. Kittinger’s awards include a Silver Star with oak leaf cluster, Distinguished Flying Cross with five oak leaf clusters, and Bronze Star with two oak leaf clusters. Kittinger's spouse, Sherry Kittinger, received the U.S. flag from his service. 23 years ago, nearly 3,000 lives were lost during the attacks of September 11, 2001. The significance of the 9/11 attacks has not waned, and we still mourn for those who were lost that day. #NeverForget #PatriotDay
23 years later, we have not forgotten. On Sept. 11, 2001, nearly 3,000 lives were lost during terrorist attacks that forever changed our nation. As we honor their memories today, we’re also reminded to thank and honor the thousands of men and women who fought, served and died in Afghanistan and Iraq in the aftermath of that fateful day: http://spr.ly/6049Wc1Kc #NeverForget #September11th

Please join us in congratulating Mr. Allan Romero, an 11th Wing Sexual Assault Response Coordinator assigned to the Pentagon. He was chosen to represent the Department of the Air Force at the United States Department of Defense Sexual Assault Response Workforce competency panel scheduled for this month. Only 16 people are chosen, and Mr. Romero was one of four people selected from the Air Force District of Washington. This was a very competitive process among MAJCOM and installation #SAPR workforce professionals. Mr. Romero’s selection speaks volumes to the complexity, responsibility, and professionalism of his duties.
