Space-Based ADS-B: Global data for enhanced surveillance, innovation and analytics

About us

Aireon has deployed a space-based air traffic surveillance system for Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) equipped aircraft throughout the entire globe. Aireon harnesses next-generation aviation surveillance technologies that are currently ground-based and, for the first time ever, extend their reach globally to significantly improve efficiency, enhance safety, reduce emissions and provide cost savings benefits to all stakeholders. Real-time ADS-B surveillance covers oceanic, polar and remote regions, as well as augment existing ground-based systems that are limited to terrestrial airspace. In partnership with leading ANSPs from around the world, like NAV CANADA, Iridium Communications, ENAV, NATS, the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA), and Naviair, Aireon will have an operational, global, space-based air traffic surveillance system in early 2019.

Aireon was thrilled to attend the Airports AI Alliance Summit last week in Washington DC, where aviation stakeholders and leaders from across the globe came together to discuss AI’s transformative role in airport operations. The industry's focus has shifted from whether to adopt AI to now how to implement it effectively.   Key insights from the summit: - 79% of airports see AI as disruptive to their operations. - 74% of airports are in the early stages of AI adoption, highlighting the need for strategic implementation. - Cybersecurity remains a top concern for 70% of airports. - AI is driving real impact, from computer vision for airside operations to predictive analytics for passenger flow and digital twins for asset management.   It’s clear that AI is no longer just a concept - it’s a critical tool for improving efficiency, safety, and passenger experience. Aireon is excited to continue supporting airports on their AI journey with real-time and historical data solutions that enhance operational decision-making.   #AIinAviation #AirportTechnology

At the CANSO Global Safety Conference 2025, starting next week, Peter Clay, Chief Information Security Officer at Aireon LLC, will be speaking in two sessions on cybersecurity—tackling the evolving threats facing the aviation industry. In the below pre-event interview, Peter highlights “Compliance Complacency” as a key issue in cyber threat. Too often, security documentation becomes a checkbox exercise rather than a tool for real protection. Meanwhile, cyber threats continue to grow, and every resource spent on paperwork for its own sake is a resource not spent on proactive defence. So how do we move from a reactive to a proactive cybersecurity approach? Pete suggests: - Think like an attacker—simulate real threats, not just theoretical ones. - Emphasise hands-on training—move beyond PowerPoint presentations. - Pursue radical visibility—use modern monitoring and automation to detect and respond before an attack happens. With over 30 years of experience, Pete has worked globally in technology risk assessment, enterprise security, AI, and machine learning security. He has led multidisciplinary teams in designing and implementing cybersecurity frameworks, published scholarly papers on threat intelligence and risk management, and has been widely quoted in national and international publications. Read below to find out more and Don’t miss Pete’s insights at CANSO Global Safety Conference 2025!

GPS interference, particularly spoofing and jamming, has become a significant concern for the aviation industry in recent months, driven by the rise of geopolitical tensions worldwide. Identifying GPS interference hotspots can provide valuable insights for aircraft operators, ANSPs, and other aviation stakeholders. Aireon is unveiling a new metric in its Safety Dashboard product to give ANSPs a comprehensive view of the GPS signals in their airspace. The GPS Interference metric specifically targets the rising issue of deliberate interference with global satellite navigation systems. Read more to learn how Aireon's Safety Dashboard can help you detect and take proactive measures against GPS jamming and spoofing: https://lnkd.in/d4nCqwWH

  • On Saturday, March 1, 2025, multiple aircraft approaching Reagan National Airport (DCA) experienced alarming Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) Resolution Advisories (RA), indicating a potential risk of mid-air collision. Typically, these TCAS RA alerts are a critical safety barrier, enabling pilots to execute maneuvers to maintain safe separation. However, on March 1, the number of alerts was significantly higher than expected, when several events were recorded in a single day compared to less than three on a normal month in the same area. Using Aireon's cutting-edge ADS-B data, our team gained valuable insights into these TCAS anomalies. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dGWm5DjU
