To be a global leader in networking, education and sustainability programs for advancing iron and steel technology.
About us
The Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) is an international technical association representing iron and steel producers, their allied suppliers and related academia. The association is dedicated to advancing the technical development, production, processing and application of iron and steel. AIST was established on January 1, 2004, by the merger of two longstanding societies, the Association of Iron and Steel Engineers (AISE) founded in 1907 and the Iron & Steel Society (ISS) founded in 1974. The best practices of both predecessor organizations were incorporated into AIST to create a strong international, member-based technical organization that can sustain itself in an environment of continual change. AIST’s professional and student member base totals over 18,000, representing more than 70 countries and including engineers, operators, corporate administrators, researchers and educators. 38% of AIST members are industry suppliers, 29% producers, 30% students and 3% academia. AIST members actively participate within the association through technology divisions, member chapters, board of directors and the AIST Foundation. AIST is committed to presenting superior technical meetings, conferences, exhibits and publications to better serve those involved in the iron and steel community, including steel manufacturers, suppliers, consumers and academics. AIST’s major international conference, AISTech, consists of more than 400 technical presentations, over 500 exhibiting companies and 6,000-8,000 attendees. This annual event brings together technologies from around the world, promoting a global network to help steel producers and suppliers compete in today’s global marketplace.

Microalloying is a widespread approach to enhance the mechanical properties of steel through utilization of limited but specific alloys to enable cost-effective implementation of thermal and thermomechanical processing strategies. Microalloying '25 invites contributions from steel producers, steel users and ferroalloy producers to discuss state-of-the-art microalloying, processing and implementation strategies. Papers that contribute to the fundamental understanding of alloying, processing and property interrelationships are of particular interest, as well as papers detailing microalloying implementation and end-use performance. The symposium welcomes presentations on a variety of steel products such as sheet, plate, bar, wire, rail, bearings and castings. A variety of microalloying elements will be discussed, including niobium, vanadium, molybdenum and others. See the full list of areas of interest and steel grades at https://ow.ly/jG6t50TSX73 If you are interested in participating, please submit your abstract in English of 150 words or less by 1 December 2024 through the link below: https://ow.ly/886n50TSX72 Final manuscripts are due 1 March 2025.

We had an incredible time at the DRI & HBI: Logistics, Production and Utilization Seminar held from 1–3 October 2024 in Toledo, Ohio. This sold-out event brought together 130 attendees from 18 countries, highlighting global interest in direct reduced iron (DRI). Over two days, participants gained practical insights into DRI production and its role as a crucial feedstock in steelmaking, especially with the rise of natural gas availability. The attendees learned about raw materials and DRI handling, technologies for DRI production, and using DRI in electric arc furnaces, blast furnaces and basic oxygen furnaces. A special thanks to Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Units LLC for providing attendees a firsthand look at the technology in action. In addition to the enthusiastic attendees, we would like also to acknowledge our event sponsors, The Systems Group and Tenova HYL, for their support in the event. We’re excited to see how the knowledge shared will influence the future of iron and steel production!

Biofilms in contact cooling systems can reduce spray nozzle flow and trap suspended solids. Uneven cooling results in off-quality steel production and maintenance downtime. Many biodispersants are inapplicable in these systems due to their low tolerance for foaming. Veolia Water Technologies & Solutions Spectrus proprietary non-foaming biodispersants can help prevent biofilm formation and improve biocide efficiency, protecting against production losses and costly maintenance.
