  • Willy Wonka said it best: "So much time and so little to do. Wait, strike that, reverse it!"—that perfectly sums up the whirlwind at the Eastgate Branch! September was a busy month, with new walls, tile work, geothermal wells, windows, and a patio all coming together. We also thank everyone who painted rocks for the patio—your artwork is now part of the library’s foundation! We also welcomed a brand new elevator on Sept 30, meeting modern accessibility standards. Plus, if you’ve driven by, you’ve probably noticed the gorgeous new windows letting in tons of natural light. Looking ahead, the project will soon include enhanced amenities such as a play area, study rooms, and a café, creating a more engaging and functional space for our community. • We’re excited to share that yesterday marked the final day for our Rock the Renovation community rock-decorating project. We deeply appreciate everyone’s participation and commitment to making this initiative a success. What an AMAZING community! We've captured photos of some of the beautifully decorated rocks so you can see them before they find their permanent home in the new patio at our Eastgate Branch. The rocks will be delivered soon, and we'll be there to document the process every step of the way. Stay tuned for updates!

  • We often hear about the importance of helping others, and one of the best places to do that is at the library, as well as in many areas of our community. Every day, the Versiti Blood Center of Illinois needs at least 600 donors to meet the needs of our local hospitals. On Thursday, August 22, from 3-7 PM, you have the opportunity to help people and save lives at the library. We're located at 2600 Harnish Drive, Algonquin, IL. You can make an appointment or drop in to donate blood. Be a community hero—appointments are appreciated, but walk-ins are always welcome. Scan the QR code in the video or visit https://lnkd.in/e-dDWpDV to reserve your time to donate.

  • August has been a transformative month at the library’s Eastgate Branch. It’s fitting as we head into September’s National Library Card Sign-up Month which so happens to feature the Transformers Optimus Prime. With staff relocated to the Main Library, the once-quiet space has been buzzing with activity. Walls have been removed, furniture is gone, and where brick once stood, frames for new windows have risen. Enjoy this video walkthrough of the branch as it is now emptied out, then check out the latest update to learn more about the Eastgate Branch Renovation and see additional photos of the transformation. https://lnkd.in/dJfWvARe

  • Working with our fellow McHenry County libraries is something we cherish. Partnerships allow us all to enjoy quality programming, fun adventures, and award-winning authors for members of our communities. Join us this September for an exciting two-day event as we proudly present An Afternoon with William Kent Krueger, collaborating with our friends from surrounding McHenry County libraries. Kick off the festivities by discussing his book, The River We Remember, at Scorched Earth Brewing Company (203 Berg St., Algonquin, IL) on Wednesday, September 4, from 7-8 p.m. Then, on Sunday, September 8, from 2-3 p.m., meet the acclaimed author himself at the Luecht Auditorium at McHenry County College (8900 Northwest Hwy, Crystal Lake, IL). In a special interview led by Chicago Tribune journalist Heidi Stevens, William Kent Krueger will discuss his popular Cork O’Connor series. Don’t miss your chance to meet him and purchase signed copies of his books, courtesy of Read Between The Lynes bookstore in Woodstock, IL. Mark your calendars and join us for an extraordinary literary experience! Registration is required, reserve your place for either or both events today, visit https://bit.ly/alg-kent
