“For me and for most girls I know, the fact that males are participating in our sports takes all the fun out of competing.” From overnight trips, to locker rooms, to athletic competition, high school sophomore and ADF client Adaleia Cross has run into a male student in private spaces numerous times. Fortunately, SCOTUS has, for now, stopped the Biden-Harris admin from radically redefining Title IX. ✍ Adaleia shares why she’s joining other women and girls to keep biology in Title IX for good.

TEACHER VINDICATED 🙌 A Virginia school board has learned an expensive lesson in respecting First Amendment rights. After it fired teacher Peter Vlaming for declining to use inaccurate pronouns, the West Point School Board will now pay $575,000 in damages and attorney fees. That’s the outcome of a lawsuit ADF filed in 2019 on Vlaming’s behalf. Last year, in a sweeping victory for free speech and religious freedom, the Virginia Supreme Court ruled that his case could move forward. Now, the school district has agreed to a settlement. “Peter wasn’t fired for something he said; he was fired for something he couldn’t say,” said ADF Senior Counsel Chris Schandevel, who argued Vlaming’s case before the court. “As a teacher, Peter was passionate about the subject he taught, was well-liked by his students, and did his best to accommodate their needs and requests. But he couldn’t in good conscience speak messages that he doesn’t believe to be true. And no school board or government official can punish someone for that reason.” In addition to the payout, West Point has cleared Vlaming’s firing from his record. Apart from the settlement agreement, the district also changed its policies to conform to Virginia’s new statewide education policies, which respect free speech and parental rights. No government should force its employees—or anyone else—to voice their allegiance to an ideology that violates their deepest beliefs. That’s what West Point did when it tried to force Peter Vlaming to endorse its own view of gender identity. We’re glad Peter had the courage to stand by his convictions—and thankful he’s now been vindicated.

🚨BREAKING: We’re suing California for its humorless, authoritarian censorship laws Today, on behalf of The Babylon Bee and California-based social media personality Kelly Chang Rickert, we filed a federal challenge to California’s new laws censoring online political speech. One of these laws is already in effect, threatening Californians’ free speech during this current election. The laws, recently signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom, ban posting “materially deceptive” content online that is “likely to harm” politicians’ “electoral prospects” during election season. They even ban reposting such content, including reposts seeking to debunk or debate it. These vague standards will leave Californians guessing and afraid to speak on political issues. The laws also create a lawsuit snitch line, allowing anyone who sees a post to sue and collect attorneys’ fees—a recipe for political retaliation. Anyone posting satire will be forced to add burdensome disclaimers. All told, these laws amount to naked censorship. They empower the government to be the arbiter between fact and fiction, and they appoint government officials as “humor police.” This is not why America’s Founders gave us the First Amendment. "While lawmakers act as if posting and resharing memes is a threat to democracy, these laws at the end of the day censor speech California politicians don’t like," said ADF’s Jonathan Scruggs. "We are urging the court to affirm that the First Amendment protects The Babylon Bee’s and Ms. Rickert’s freedom to poke fun at political leaders.” "Our job is hard enough when our jokes keep coming true, as if they were prophecies. But it becomes significantly more difficult when self-serving politicians abuse their power to try and control public discourse and clamp down on comedy. Unfortunately for them, the First Amendment secures our right to tell jokes they don't like" shares @thebabylonbee CEO @beechief. Without free speech, every other freedom is at risk. We’re committed to standing for free expression in California, and everywhere it's under threat around the world. 🔗 MORE: https://bit.ly/4eIplZc

No one should be fooled. President Biden's move to remake the Supreme Court has nothing to do with protecting the Court, and everything to do with the Left’s desire to control every institution in society. ✍ ADF CEO Kristen Waggoner writes in National Review
