Nothing better than beautiful fall day spent at the Denver Botanic Gardens for the Great Education Colorado luncheon! Students shared what makes a welcoming school community and it reminds me why I do this work! I love young people and care for them so much! Their answers are real, authentic, and simple - trusted adults, colorful spaces, peer groups and clubs, celebrating achievements, and daily kindness! It was an honor to attend with my Kaiser Permanente friends including Curtis J. Robbins and Michelle Lackore, as well as a run in with my previous boss and now board member of Great Education Colorado, Cheryl Miller! Our table group was rad! In my recent Mental Health America blog post, I quoted Nadine Burke Harris ... “Scientifically demonstrated strategies, such as practicing mindfulness, meditating, experiencing nature, exercising regularly, and developing healthy relationships can improve outcomes for people who have experienced ACEs [adverse childhood experiences].” https://lnkd.in/eSM5ZMwx This quote is becoming my north star. Over the weekend, I attended a sound healing workshop with Avery Whitmore. Wow - it was powerful. I left feeling lighter as if I had shed some of my own adversity. We sang, played music, and connected over nutritious food. Yesterday, I had the honor of leading a mindfulness session with U.S. Soccer Foundation. We did tai chi/qi gong, made art, and did breathing exercises to the peaceful sounds of my new rain stick and wave chime. Thank you Krista Washington, M.B.A. Diana Sciocchetti Martin Carly Musso for inviting me into your community. Thank you Tara Stiles Strala Yoga for helping me become better at easeful movement. Today, I teamed up with Lauren DeVera for a Yoga Alliance workshop on The Power of Play at All Ages. We moved like animals (see my fierce puma walk below), sculpted playful memories out of clay, and shared the joy of making music together. Thank you Patricia Anderson for this magic experience - I'm so glad we're reconnected. Laura Hatch, being in community with you made it even more special.
