AWM extends our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Susan Wojcicki As a pioneer at Google and former CEO of YouTube, Susan broke barriers in Silicon Valley and inspired countless women in media and technology. Her legacy will continue to influence the industry for generations to come. Our thoughts are with all who knew and admired her during this difficult time.

I was so sad to hear about the passing of Susan Wojcicki. I got to know Susan through Girls Who Code. She was a big supporter of our work and our mission. Susan was a true trailblazer for women and girls in tech. And not only that, she was one of the tech industry’s absolute biggest champions of moms. When she joined Google in 1999, she was not only one of its first employees (and one of the first women), she was also 4 months pregnant! A mom of 5, she was the first Google employee to take maternity leave — before they even had a real HR department. She took it 5 times and she continued to be a fieriness advocate of paid family leave, both at Google and nationwide, even penning an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal in 2014 ahead of her 5th time going on maternity leave — ‘Paid Maternity Leave Is Good for Business.’ https://lnkd.in/ecnFVcbg “I’ve been lucky to have the support of a company that values motherhood as much as Google. And I’ve been lucky to live in a state like California that supports working mothers,” she wrote. “Support for motherhood shouldn’t be a matter of luck; it should be a matter of course. Paid maternity leave is good for mothers, families and business. America should have the good sense to join nearly every other country in providing it.” Susan was a visionary. We can honor her by continuing her fight for paid family leave for all of America’s families.
