  • When should I tell my child their origin story? ⏰ There is a lot of research which suggests it's healthy to tell your child your family's story early in life rather than hiding it from them until their older. While there are many tools and resources to help prepare you for these conversations, they can still be challenging. Here are a few tips that might be helpful: 👇👇 🔸Start Early: Start talking to children about their origins when they are very young, even as babies! This makes the information feel normal, with no surprises later. 🔸Practice Early and Often: Practicing early can help parents become comfortable telling their story. The more family storytelling that occurs, the easier it becomes to talk about it with the child. 🔸Be Ready for Ongoing Conversations: Telling a child about their origins should not be a one-off event. Check in with your child from time to time and be ready to answer questions. 🔸Keep it Age-Appropriate: Keep the conversation light, stick to the facts, and avoid overwhelming the child with too much information. In our recent magazine issue, the article, "The Power of Narrative: Family Storytelling, Diverse Families, and Donor Conception," goes into much greater detail and provides more tips on how you can be confident to share your child's story with them. 🧡 Click the link below to read more. https://lnkd.in/ez5T2Kik

  • Congrats and thank you Polly!

It was an honor to receive the Advocacy Award from AllPaths Family Building today at their Footsteps for Family Building event today. What a joyful celebration! I’ve been grateful during my time at GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD) to work on many efforts across New England to ensure equality in parentage for children (CT, MA, ME, NH, RI, VT) to expand access to adoption (ME, NH, RI) to expand access to fertility health care (ME, NH, MA) and to defend against efforts to limit access to family building. In this work, AllPaths Family Building led by the tremendous Kate Weldon LeBlanc has been a fantastic collaborator and partner. Want to know how to be a true ally and to show up for LGBTQ people? Follow and support the work of AllPaths Family Building. They are about community, support, and inclusion in family building.

Dedicated to improving the lives of ALL families

Today is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day. People all over the world are invited to light a candle at 7 in the evening wherever they are, which creates a continuous #WaveOfLight. I find this symbol so powerful and comforting. Because although an estimated 1 in 4 pregnancies end in a loss, there is still so much silence, stigma and lonely grief. At AllPaths Family Building we have a lantern where we invite people to add their personal notes (like baby names or nicknames) and then we light it every October 15th. This year I noticed this sweetest note, likely written by a sibling.

  • Elizabeth's family building journey took her through the heartbreak of three pregnancy losses. She says that one of the hardest parts of dealing with her losses was that she felt incapable of talking about what she was feeling. After going through a lot of therapy and healing, Elizabeth made the decision to get involved with AllPaths. Her goal as a support group leader is to help others feel safe, seen, supported, and validated. If you're dealing with the heartbreak of infant or pregnancy loss, please know that you're not alone and you can find support in our free virtual pregnancy loss group. • Are you using IVF to grow your family?🌱 Find support in our free, virtual support group. This group is open to anyone who is doing IVF for any reason, but only for those who are not yet parenting. We'll have two sessions this month: 🔸Wednesday, October 9th @ 7PM EST 🔸Wednesday, October 23rd @ 7PM EST This group is a great place to ask questions, hear from others experiences, and find people who understand what you're going through. 🧡 All of our groups are peer-led by someone who has experienced that particular path, and so this group will be led by someone who has experience using IVF to grow their family. • "We talk about them because they are ours, and no passage of time can ever change that." - Unknown 🧡 In honor of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day on October 15th, families around the world will come together from 7-8 p.m. local time to light a candle, creating the Wave of Light. The Wave of Light is a chance to honor the lives of these little ones who are gone but never forgotten. We will be lighting our AllPaths lantern as part of the Wave of Light and invite you to add your remembrance to our candle. You can add a name, a quote, or anything that helps you meaningfully honor your loss that night. To learn more and to fill out the form to have your remembrance added to the AllPaths lantern, click the link below.👇🔗 https://lnkd.in/epsUgbNg
