Our employer continues to demonstrate a blatant disregard for federal labor law and our right to discuss working conditions with coworkers. We demand that Google clarify our rights to protected speech with respect to all ongoing antitrust trials that will affect our work. We will continue to fight against the unlawful suppression of our voices at work.

A CWA-affiliated labor union that seeks to organize Alphabet workers to demand dignity and respect on the job.
About us
Our union strives to protect Alphabet workers, our global society, and our world. We recognize our power as Alphabet workers—full-time employees, temporary employees, vendors, and contractors—comes from our solidarity with one another and our ability to collectively act to ensure that our workplace is equitable and Alphabet acts ethically. We will use our reclaimed power to control what we work on and how it is used. We will ensure our working conditions are inclusive and fair. There is no place for harassment, bigotry, discrimination, or retaliation. We prioritize the needs and concerns of the marginalized and vulnerable. Workers are essential to the business. The diversity of our voices makes us stronger. We will ensure Alphabet acts ethically and in the best interests of society and the environment. We are responsible for the technology that we bring into the world, and recognize that its implications reach far beyond Alphabet. We will work with those affected by our technology to ensure that it serves the public good.

Over 200 WeLocalize raters were fired last Wednesday and Thursday. As is the Alphabet fashion, no warning was given to those fired and the reasons behind the firing remain unclear to those impacted. “Quality” was cited as a determining factor, yet no specific quality metrics were cited, and even those with good scores were fired. Those who worked at WeLocalize for years, as well as those who just started, were seemingly randomly picked for termination across the United States. This unprecedented mass firing has left remaining WeLocalize raters worried if they may be next? And with no clear communication regarding the firings and why they occurred, how can raters feel secure in our jobs? We reaffirm that Alphabet workers, from Google FTEs to WeLocalize TVCs, deserve to feel secure in their job. It is no longer enough to hope that we don’t receive a termination email, it’s time that we enact change in the tech industry and set a new precedent for when layoffs occur!

It's been almost a week since our West-Coast Leadership Summit, and we wanted to extend a HUGE thank you to our AWU-CWA member leaders and staff organizers for such an exciting and productive weekend, as well as our community collaborators, Labor on the Line, UESF, and the Guild Freelancers! We encourage you to keep an eye out for our next AWU Leadership Summit!

Yesterday, a group of AWU members was able to make it out to the picket lines to support Barnes & Noble booksellers at Union Square who are fighting for a fair contract! AWU members were able to provide support to B&N employees, taking space on the picket line, so that RWDSU was able to hand out flyers and continue educating the public on their contract fight. All of our labor struggles are interconnected, when we fight together, we win together!

As the AI revolution continues to upend thousands of jobs in the tech industry, it becomes clear the importance of job protections for workers, achievable only through worker solidarity, through tech worker unions. https://lnkd.in/gbgqzAS6
