We're excited to share that the newly renovated and expanded Bruce Museum is this week's featured "World Building of the Week" by World-Architects.com | PSA Publishers Ltd.! The spotlight on our design highlights how the architecture enhances the museum’s connection to the Greenwich, CT community and its diverse offerings. “We can now welcome the community in ways we never could before,” says Robert Wolterstorff, Executive Director of the Bruce. It also delves into the inspiration behind the façade, which draws from the region’s historic lace walls—stone walls loosely stacked by early settlers, creating a balance of air and stone. Altieri’s Women in Engineering group hosted a volunteer event for all staff to build a farm stand for Cornerstone Home & Gardens. We created the design, gathered materials, built and painted the stand, and delivered it! We all had a great time working on this project. Cornerstone Home & Gardens is a non-profit organization that gives an opportunity for Neurodivergent individuals to experience real-life work opportunities on the farm. This is an organization that was certainly well-deserving of the new farm stand! https://lnkd.in/dZCq6B_d #Community #VolunteerWork

Bruce Museum has won a 2024 Green Good Design Sustainability Award! The Green GOOD DESIGN Sustainability Awards were created to honor products and projects "that have forwarded exceptional thinking and inspired greater progress toward a more healthier and more sustainable universe." Located in Greenwich, CT, the Bruce Museum's energy-efficient design showcases forward-thinking strategies that seamlessly combine aesthetic appeal with high performance. The facade's "lace wall" functions as a thermally broken enclosure with precast pieces suspended from a stainless-steel frame, ensuring an airtight and energy-efficient facade. With a predicted Energy Use Intensity (EUI) of 53, significantly below the regional benchmark of 182 for similar institutions, the project achieves an impressive energy reduction of over 70%, surpassing building code efficiency standards. The museum's commitment to sustainability extends to state-of-the-art air handling units and a dehumidification system, contributing to optimal building performance while minimizing energy consumption. We are honored to be recognized among so many incredible projects, products, and firms. Thank you for including the Bruce, The Chicago Athenaeum Museum for Architecture and Design! Today is National Intern Day and we are celebrating our special interns! Meet Maggie (UConn student and second-year Altieri intern), Elizabeth (Fairfield Ludlowe High School student), and Angel (CT State Community College Norwalk student and long-term intern). Here’s what they have to say about their internships: “Interning at Altieri has helped me further understand the real-world applications of the theories I’m learning in school. It has opened my eyes to see just how versatile electrical engineering and engineering is as a whole.” -Maggie “Interning at Altieri has immersed me into the life of an engineer on a day-to-day basis, giving me a glimpse of what a future in this field might look like that no other avenues can offer. This has ultimately encouraged me to continue to pursue a career in engineering.” -Elizabeth “Altieri has helped me explore and experience different engineering trades (MEPF) as well as develop a multitude of soft skills and communication habits I’ll be able to utilize once I’m out of school.” -Angel #NationalInternDay

Construction is underway on another #AltieriProject at Harvard University! #MEPEngineers #UnderConstruction
Very excited to announce that construction is underway on Harvard’s new American Repertory Theater! The regeneratively-designed building will include interconnected and adaptable multi-use spaces to support creativity and embrace future change. Created in close collaboration with American Repertory Theater, Harvard University, Haworth Tompkins, ARC/ Architectural Resources Cambridge, and Charcoalblue, the Center for Creativity & Performance will be a place for public gathering, international research, teaching, and groundbreaking theatrical production, ushering in a new chapter for A.R.T. with a cutting-edge facility set to redefine the landscape of performance and public gathering. Constructed with laminate mass timber, reclaimed brick, and cedar cladding, it aims to minimize embodied and operational carbon, maximize wellbeing, and boost biodiversity. The center will feature adaptable multi-use spaces, two performance venues, rehearsal studios, a public lobby, and an outdoor performance yard. When complete, A.R.T.’s new home offer a model for the next generation of cultural architecture by encompassing the core principles of openness, artistic flexibility, collaboration, sustainability and regenerative design. https://lnkd.in/eeRTqA79 #HaworthTompkins #ART #Harvard #Theater #Creativity #Performance #culture #architecture #openness #flexibility #collaboration #sustainability #regenerativedesign #design American Repertory Theater, ARC/ Architectural Resources Cambridge, Charcoalblue, Shawmut Design and Construction 📸 Dematerial
