About us
The mission of the Sport & Sponsorship-Linked Marketing Special Interest Group or SportSIG is to expand the knowledge base in the field of sports and event marketing and further develop the academic community dedicated to this field through collaborative scholarly activities and outputs focused on the research, teaching, and practice of sports marketing. SportSIG strives to create opportunities at the Summer and Winter AMA Academics Conferences for participants to interact and network with key sports industry executives by facilitating programming at local professional and collegiate sports properties in the host cities. We also seek to hold a Sports Industry Keynote speaker series at each Summer and Winter AMA that highlights seminal scholars and practitioners from the sports industry.

Sustainability communications via sponsorship: Potential, characteristics and managerial challenges. Sustainable Development, 32(4), 4284–4296. https://lnkd.in/d8DsZR3A Sustainability communications have become a key issue for organizations. While most studies have focused on sustainability reporting and green advertising, other communication tools, such as sponsorship, are under-researched. The present study addresses this void by exploring the potential and identifying key characteristics and challenges of sustainable sponsorships, theoretically conceptualized as a social contract between sponsorship contractors and society. As such, it is the first to identify the potential and key characteristics of sponsorship for sustainability communications. The authors took an explorative, qualitative research approach, conducting 13 in-depth interviews. The interviewees highlighted eight characteristics that determined sustainable sponsorships across all three sustainability dimensions. Sustainability was identified as a key driver in managing sponsorship effectively. In light of the study's findings, it is recommended that sponsors and sponsees should adapt their sponsorship management to incorporate sustainability. Measuring the outcome and success of sustainable sponsorships could be a subject for future research.

Unlock the Power of Passionate Fans: Insights from Media Consumption Trends Are you leveraging the full potential of your sponsorships? Here’s why you should: Fans who follow three or more of a team's social media channels—Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, TikTok, and more—are not just engaged; they are extremely passionate. With an average passion score of 85, these superfans consume 75% of the team's broadcasts, both TV and radio. Key Insight: For each additional social media channel followed, sponsor recall increases by at least 3%. In our analysis of nearly 2 million observations and 2,000 partnerships, we see: --39% sponsor recall for fans following none of the team’s social media. --44% for those following just one channel. --48% for those following two channels. --53% for those following three or more channels and engaging deeply with the team's media content. Actionable Takeaway: To maximize sponsor recall and engagement, ensure your brand is present across multiple social and media channels.
