Did you see Team France running in the Marine Corps Marathon and 10K this weekend? The French Invictus Team–sponsored by Cyrille Chahboune–has been honoring injured soldiers through the multi-stage "Run for our Wounded." The goal of the operation was to show support for their brothers and sisters in arms who have been affected mentally and physically through their time in the military. The challenge–which began in March–consisted of several runs covering over 34,000 kilometers and involving civilians and servicemen and women from the Hampton Roads community. The MCM served as the final stage of this relay. At the International Conference in Support of #Lebanon’s People and Sovereignty in Paris, the participants [...] announced $1 billion in aid, including $800 million in humanitarian aid and $200 million to support Lebanon’s security forces. France has pledged to raise €100 million and deploy 100 tonnes of humanitarian freight. This aid will help address the urgent needs of the Lebanese people, especially displaced people, in the health, food, water, hygiene and sanitation, and education sectors. The conference was held in Paris on Pres. Macron’s initiative, in conjunction with the UN, and signaled the strong mobilization by the international community, united around Pres. Macron and Min. Barrot, in support of a massive emergency humanitarian response. The gathering enabled the Lebanese security forces to be lent additional support. This support, financial and in kind, should allow them to preserve civil peace and prepare a massive deployment of the Lebanese army in southern Lebanon, as part of a diplomatic settlement. It underlined the urgent need for a ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel and for a diplomatic settlement based on UNSC Resolution 1701 making it possible to ensure safety of the populations and safe return of displaced people to their homes, in both Lebanon and Israel. Finally, the conference provided the opportunity to call on Lebanon’s authorities and political groups to elect a president as soon as possible, an essential stage in getting the Lebanese institutions up and running again. https://lnkd.in/eUHzdMCp

This week, the Embassy of France in the US hosted the Best Baguette in D.C. competition, held by French Morning USA and Frenchly. Bakers and bread-lovers alike descended on the Maison Française to discover who makes the best baguette in the district. We are pleased to announce that Fresh Baguette won the fan favorite award, Ellē won the technical award and Bread Alley claimed the Lafayette prize. What was the Lafayette prize, you may ask? To honor the 200th anniversary of the Farewell Tour of America's Favorite Fighting Frenchman, bakers were asked to create a loaf reminiscent of the times, personality, or style of the general. Bread alley's Harissa Sourdough took the cake! Thank you to all of the bakeries who participated, including: Bread Alley, Dog Tag Bakery, Ellē, Fresh Baguette, Gustave Boulangerie, Manifest Bread, Seylou and Sunday Morning Bakehouse. And thank you as well to our judges: Patrick Vanas, Chef Ahmed Ibrahim, Maria Kopsidas, Jason Fisher, Sandie Soman, Chef Hugues Cossard, Roya Fox, Alex Schroeder, Tony Polcari, Consul General Caroline Monvoisin, Mark Schneider, Chuck Schwam and Robert Kelly. https://lnkd.in/e25-M5Nr
